Las Vegas Sun

In Vegas, are we what we Netflix?

Netflix recently added a unique search feature that lets you see what your neighbors are watching. It's searchable by city or by zip code.

Naturally we were curious about what DVDs Las Vegas is having delivered to its mailboxes. Here's the current top 10:

1. Mercenary for Justice (Steven Seagal reluctantly prepares to lead a team of heavily armed soldiers to free the son of a billionaire arms magnate from bondage)

2. Sweeney Todd ( BBC version of the macabre tale of a barber who unleashes his homicidal streak on unsuspecting clientele)

3. Amazing Johnathan: Wrong on Every Level (Vegas magician is aided by his able but zany assistant, Psychic Tanya)

4. Wicked Little Things (horror flick about a widow and her two daughters haunted by dead children in their thouse in the Pennsylvania mountains)

5. The Unit: Season 2 (Special Forces squad travels to Pakistan to help an undercover operative on a mission to thwart terrorists)

6. Earthstorm (an asteroid slams into the moon, aftereffects threaten to destroy Earth)

7. Tooth and Nail (ipostapocalypse, survivors called the Foragers face off with the Rovers, a brutal gang of cannibals)

8. Blood Work (retired FBI agent tracks a serial killer)

9. Hulk (mild-mannered scientist mutates into savage green-skinned hulk whenever he loses control of his emotions

10. Find Me Guilty (infamous mobster "Fat" Jack DiNorscio defends himself in court rather than rat out his cohorts)

Meanwhile, suburban Henderson's top 10 looks much different:

1. Bones: Season 1 (dark comedy about a forensic anthropologist who finds clues in the bones of murder victims)

2. Steven Wright: When the Leaves Blow Away (monotoned standup comic on the absurdity of modern life)

3. Jerome Bixby's The Man From Earth (college professor reveals to his colleagues that he's actually a centuries-old caveman)

4. Big Love: Season 1 (Salt Lake City man struggles to balance three wives, seven kids and three new houses)

5. He Was a Quiet Man (cubicle drone becomes a hero when he saves colleagues from a co-worker gone postal)

6. Inside Man (negotiations at a bank heist get complicated)

7. A Perfect Day (first-time novelist gets famous, loses friends and family)

8. Lions for Lambs (talky take on the "war on terror")

9. Big Love: Season 2 (more fun with the polygamist clan)

10. The Contract (vacationing father and son are tracked by hired killers)

Vegas seems more intrigued by overt violence and end of the world scenarios; Henderson likes its villains quieter and creepier and shows a hidden kinky side. Pretty grim going overall. Lighten up, Las Vegas! They seem to be having more fun in North Las Vegas, where the top 5 includes "Meet the Browns," "First Sunday" and "Balls of Fury."
