UPDATE: “Sweeney Todd” lives in Las Vegas!

This one's worth a reminder -- it's happening next week:

At the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts, that is. Nevada's premier school for the performing arts is reviving its ambitious 2007 production of Stephen Sondheim's musical "Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (School Edition)" for two performances, 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the 700-seat Lowden Theatre, corner of 9th St. and Clark Ave. Reserved seats are $15 at StarTicketsPlus, (800) 585-3737.

This revival is a way to warm up for the International Thespian Conference, held June 23-29 at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. LVA is one of only 10 schools in the country invited to present a main stage production at the conference, which is attended by nearly 3,000 theatre students from around the country.

LVA is transporting almost 100 people -- including 30 cast members, 30 orchestra musicians, 30 crew members and staff --- to Lincoln. Ticket proceeds from "Sweeney Todd" will help defray the considerable expenses involved in remounting and traveling the show.
