Ne-Yo's latest album is titled "Year of the Gentleman," and 2008 is proving to be the Year of Ne-Yo, too: The on-the-rise R&B star, who grew up in Vegas, was honored with four Grammy Award nominations when the list of 2008 nominees was announced yesterday.
Ne-Yo, 26, is up for Album of the Year and Best Contemporary R&B album for "Year of the Gentleman," which was released in September; Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Closer"; and Best R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for "Miss Independent."
Known as Shaffer Smith when he lived, here, Ne-Yo studied visual arts at the Las Vegas Academy.
Panic at the Disco, another pop product of Las Vegas, got a nod for Best Boxed or Limited Edition Package for their co-art direction (with Alex Kirzhner) for their CD "Pretty. Odd."
The 51st annual Grammys will be given out at a live broadcast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 8, 2009.
