Help keep trash in its place on windy days

Fierce winds are ripping through Henderson today and are not expected to die down until sometime tomorrow. Because it's garbage day for many area neighborhoods, cans have been put out on the side of the road. The wind has knocked them over and, consequently, lots of garbage and paper are blowing all over our streets. One simple step can be taken to prevent this, and many people fail to follow it.

Place all of your loose trash inside a garbage bag, tie it tightly, and then place it in the garbage can. This way, when the can is blown over by the wind, your trash is not scattered all over the street. It stays put inside the garbage bag.

If you've cut grass or shrubs, place all clippings in a garbage bag and tie it tightly.

Multiple small plastic bags that have a few items of trash inside them will be picked up by the wind, so place them inside a larger garbage bag and, again, tie it tightly.

Boxes should be broken down and then placed inside a garbage bag.

My yard used to somehow become a catch-all for trash when the winds picked up like this, but since we have recently installed a fence, I'm happy to say that when I get home from work today, there should not be any trash inside my yard.

Take the extra five seconds to put your trash inside a garbage bag and hopefully we can help keep our community cleaner.
