Missed the M

M Resort

Beyond the Sun

The M Resort, Henderson's newest resort/hotel/casino opened last night and I had every intention of being there at 10 p.m. for the big party. I should have realized, however, when I saw the sea of red brake lights, that I wouldn't make it inside on opening night.

I had wanted to attend the grand opening, to get a first-look inside so I could blog about the new digs. This is very exciting for Henderson, I think. The M Resort is the first project of many to come in the West Henderson project and it's also another place to put Henderson on the map. Everything I have read and heard about the M Resort says that it is posh and upscale for locals. I'm excited to have a place like this to go to, without having to deal with the chaos of The Strip.

Last night, however, was worse than The Strip.

It being a Sunday evening, and late, I figured I'd just drive out there, take a quick look inside, and be back home before midnight. I had to get up and go to work like the rest of the world today and I also had my sister and her boyfriend with me -- college students with a full day ahead of them.

I could have continued to sit in the backed up traffic until we finally got into the hotel, but the line of cars was slow and congested, much like Sam Boyd Stadium's parking lot after a Rebel football game. Finally I just decided to turn around and go home; I'll go in when it isn't so crowded.

I was hopping mad the entire way home, though. And my sister kept saying over and over that we should have gone earlier or planned ahead. I threatened her that if she said it one more time that I'd quote her in my blog.

It's true though, I should have planned ahead. I didn't realize what a huge event it would turn out to be and I should have planned to go early or to make contact with someone who could get me in ahead of the hundreds of other cars that were waiting to get into the parking garage. I guess I'll know that for the next time a resort in Henderson has a grand opening.

I was delighted at the large outcome; this is a very good thing for our city. In what feels like a never-ending recession, it's good to see that people will still go out and spend a few dollars in their own town.

I'll get in to see the M, eventually, and then I'll be able to write about how spectacular it is. And next time I won't underestimate the opening of something that big in Henderson. Shame on me!
