If you’re wondering what to do this Friday night, especially when we’re supposed to have one of the coolest days this summer, you might want to head over to the Henderson Events Plaza on Water Street. The City’s Cultural Arts and Tourism Department have planned something new that should please just about everyone.

Because of a grant through the Target Corporation, the department is able to put on a concert series that is free and also includes local artists and crafts for kids in a festival-style atmosphere.

Last Friday night, the group The Fab played Beatles tunes. I was sad I missed it but had a previous engagement. My sister went, however, and she also brought back some cool pieces of artwork by a local artist -- little button pins with cute sayings on them.

For me, she brought “Anxiety Girl,” featuring a superhero-looking woman with a worried look on her face.

This Friday, concert-goers will be delighted to hear the Henderson Symphony Orchestra play Concert Series III: Light Classics Under the Stars. The Henderson Symphony Orchestra consists of very talented, volunteer musicians from both Henderson and Boulder City.

Artwork will be exhibited by the City Lights Gallery, the Plaza Gallery, and the Henderson Arts Association.

Admission is free and concert-goers can purchase food and beverage at the concert or bring in a cooler with their own. (Even wine is allowed.)

I’m crossing my fingers for nice weather and hopefully my family will be able to take a little walk over there. When you live close to downtown Henderson, there’s always something going on within walking-distance.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m.
