If Moapa Valley plays like it did against Lowry, the only Nevada team they wouldn’t beat is Gorman.
Moapa Valley 33, Truckee 19
Moapa Valley
vs.
Truckee
This game means everything to Moapa Valley’s stacked senior class.
Moapa Valley 28, Truckee 13
Gorman will win this one, but Centennial will put up a big-time fight.
Bishop Gorman 41, Centennial 26
Gaels defense stiffens and Anu Solomon throws for at least four touchdowns.
Bishop Gorman 46, Centennial 14
Green Valley defensive front is the difference. They’ll control the line. Again.
Green Valley 25, Coronado 21
Cougars threw all over the Gators the first time they played. Coronado finds a way to finish this time.
Coronado 28, Green Valley 24
I’ll always take the best player on the field. Liberty will have the best two players Friday.
Liberty 35, Canyon Springs 23
Seems like these two teams play all the time, and Liberty always wins a close game.
Liberty 28, Canyon Springs 26

Thanks for using the clip art I sent in! Looks good
Last Week 9-1 ( inc. 3-0 north) Season 160-31
Moapa Valley 35 Truckee 28
Was glad to see two true 3A schools end up in this game. It serves as a notice to the relegated schools from 4A that the new Div IA is no gimme title. Kudos to both of these 600-+ enrollment schools for beating out every other school with double, triple and quadruple the enrollment. I wish Truckee's streak were still intact, would make this more meaningful. Should be some excellent, disciplined football for all to watch.
Bishop Gorman 56 Centennial 28
Newton and Co. will come to play an entire four quarters, regardless of the deficit, just like in round one. Their coach will let it all hang out and i'm sure won't wait till they're down by 21 to take chances. There's no question Centennial has the tools on offense to put up points against Gorman. Unfortunately for the fearless Bulldogs anything they can do Gorman does better except maybe special teams. This time the Gaels keep the penalties under 100 yards and play to win until the last play like their Blue counterparts will certainly do.
Liberty 27 Canyon Springs 24
After seeing Reed last week need a fourth quarter comeback to beat Spanish Springs 41-38 only two weeks after beating them 47-14 it's a reminder that in HSFB anything can happen. Pressure is on Liberty here. They're the defending Sunrise champs, they're at home, they're supposed to face Gorman in two weeks; Canyon would love to ruin those plans.
Green Valley 33 Coronado 31
These two schools have become the Palo/Gorman of the east side. They've had teams in state for every sport you can think of the last two years, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball etc.. The administration, coaches and parents are obviously joining their student athletes in striving for success. Like Ray said the Instigators were MIA against Canyon Springs, they'll need to ALL show up for this game. Regardless of outcome kudos to these schools.
Reed 44 Damonte Ranch 14
After receiving a hell of a wake up call last week against Spanish Springs, the Raiders will play mistake free football against an tough but over-matched Damonte Ranch. I've said it for a month any of the top 4-5 teams from the Sunset would throttle the best from the north this year, unfortunately it will be Gorman again and we will hear a lot of crying from the north about that. I'll be traveling north to watch Solomon's last stand against what will likely be the least talented/capable northern representative of the 2000's
tuasdad,
Well, the good news is Truckee's State Championship Streak is still intact, at THREE in a Row...
Cheyenne was a good test, looking forward to coming down to Las Vegas, and calling this game against the Moapa Valley Pirates.
These two teams know each other very well, their styles, and what to expect from each other.
It should be a good one.
LTG
I very much look forward to the game, will see you there and again in Reno for Gorman vs Reed III if you happen to go watch. I think for players from other Div IA and even IA schools this would be a great game to check out and see the discipline and culture that surrounds these two schools and has them beating schools with much much larger enrollment. Honestly the mistake free football Truckee/Moapa generally showcase is something my alma mater could take notes on as we've had at least 3 games this season with 100+ penalty yards. Should be a hell of a game and yes the state championship streak still stands : )
Gettin down to the nitty gritty!!!
Pahranagat Valley over Spring Mountain
They put up big score and big but kickins all year, will win State
Mountain View over Pershing County
This game will be close ,will need perfect game to win
Moapa Valley over Truckee
Moapa is angry and has talent, not a good sign for Truckee, but they did beat a very good Cheyenne so they are not going to roll over and give up the title, Moapa will have to take it from them. I believe this is the Year they do it.
Gorman over Centennial
Gorman wins by a bigger margin this time around. They are going to send a message to everyone that thinks they can beat them.
Liberty over Canyon Springs
Liberty need to show they are the team to challenge Gorman, if the don't show it this game , they might loose.
Green Valley over Coronado
Interesting game, dont think Coronado can beat them, Green Valley will need to turn it up, wont be an easy game.
tuasdad,
Yes, I do plan to take in the North vs. Bishop Gorman game... (Reed or Damonte Ranch)
So I will see you at that game as well.
For those that have not seen a Truckee Defense play, you are in for a treat...
Zak Pettit is one of the best D-Ends in the State, regardless of classification, and he will be playing College ball next year.
I am sure Moapa Valley remembers Truckee's LB from last year, Graham Christian...
He had something like 15 tackles in the State game and about 6 of those were for a loss...
Both of them are bigger, stronger, and faster than last year...
LTG
LakeTahoeGuy-
Have seen Pettit and definitely agree that he is one of the best D-ends in the state. Is Christian back to full health in your opinion. Thought I read somewhere that he was having some shoulder issues? As far as good linebackers go I would have to say that I'm leaning toward #29 Kasen Hughes for MV as the one to watch this game.
blueandgold,
Christian was a key factor in the win against Cheyenne, stuffed #2 from Cheyenne on a 3rd and short play, for a 3 yard loss, forcing a punt, also caused a fumble in the 4th Q, which led to a Truckee TD...
It was thought that Christian's shoulder was damaged again in the 2nd Fernley game, but it was fine...
Yes, well aware of #29....
With two good Defenses facing each other, I don't see this game as a high scoring affair, like some "prognosticators"...
Teams RARELY put 28+ points on either Moapa Valley or Truckee...
LTG
I see the Moapa vs Truckee game a low scoring affair. The key for Moapa will be if they allow Truckee to score on defense or special teams. During the last 3 games against each other Truckee's defense or special teams has always made the big play to give Truckee the lead. Also in a defensive battle field position is critical. If one of the two teams gets to start their drives in their opponents territory, that team will win (see last years game, where Truckee started 6 or 7 drives in Moapa's territory).
I think #29 Hughes and #18 Christian are the two best inside linebackers in the state. I know some "4A" people will cry about level of competition or whatever, but go watch the game and those two will be in on every tackle. They both read, fly to the football, and are aggressive. There's no way to say one is better then the other they both are stud players.
It's funny to read all the predictions, all the north people say Truckee is going to win, while all the south people say Moapa is going to win. I will continue with the pattern and say Moapa wins a nail-biter 14-7. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Truckee wins either. It should be fun!
Since I haven't seen Truckee play but for them to beat Cheyenne is very impressive. I would of loved to see Cheyenne vs. Moapa Valley for the state Title. Alas that isn't to be but this is Moapa's year. With the amount of seniors on that team who have never beaten Truckee motivation shouldn't be a problem. I look forward to seeing who wins this game.
I was originally going to go with 18-14 Moapa but if history is any indicator Truckee will put 20+ on Moapa in this state title game, and hopefully, unlike the last three years Moapa will put it back too. Should be a great match up, can't wait.
Will Moapa's defense control Truckees offense more than Truckees defense controlling Moapa's offense?
I think the difference with be in the field position battle like said previously. We've seen historically how special teams can be the turning point. Moapa's offense this year is drastically more consistent then in recent years. Gonna be a hell of a game.
I understand that Gorman has extended an invitation to all six teams playing in Saturday's games - inviting them to attend (players and coaches) the Friday night Gorman / Centennial game for free. They intend to introduce them over the PA system, in hopes of encouraging the Friday night crowd to return for the Saturday triple header.
It may be interesting for these smaller schools to see a great Div 1 state quarterfinal game (Sunset Championship)in a great venue. The total atmosphere at Fertitta Field for a big game, plus two very talented schools should be worth the effort.
Amazing that after the NIAA bashing Gorman received that they accepted the invitation to host the three championships. Now, they have a "surprise" home game due to the Centennial upset the night before. Great weekend for football!
Hey Ray,
Just curious how this work?
If Im reading this right, theres no 1A Coach of the year? No Delgado, no Lewis, just nobody???
http://www.thespectrum.com/viewart/20121...
What time and day is moapa v trucker? I want to this game badly, saw moapa last year. Ibelieve this game is better than all others to happen the rest of the year. Gorman will roll everyone, don't bring up liberty. Not as good as lat year will get manhandled by bg.
* sorry trukee, dang iPad . *see, * last, dang iPad made me look ignorant.
I believe Boulder's Coach won the Sunrise Coach of the Year over Lewis. I could be wrong on that but I know Mojave's Coach won the Sunset. Grats to all the All-League players. Good job all.
Ray and Case,
Tell me what you think of this concept:
I don't know what the fiscal drawbacks are of it, but I think the playoff format in Division 1 needs to be changed. It's ridiculous that one region has to play one less playoff game than the other two every year (in this year's case, it's the Sunrise). I think they just need to put together a 24 team, single-elimination bracket. There's nothing wrong with an earned bye week. If anything, it'll make the fight for a high seed worth even more. Let them earn their week off from the playoffs, don't just give it to them. It would make for 23 total playoff games, just as the current format does, but I think it would be more fair to everyone (especially the kids; having to play one less playoff game this year doesn't make up for the kids last year that lost in last year's "extra" playoff game), as well as much more competitive. Thoughts anyone???
dvsriot - in your scenario, is the season for seeding purposes only? Is you 24 team bracket have four pods (6 teams each with 1-6 seeded teams in each)? Do you disregard the geographic location - mix north with south, mix sunrise with sunset, etc.
I am really excited about the Truckee Moapa game.Truckee knows Moapa better than anyone and Moapa knows Truckee better than anyone. Also no high winds predicted for Saturday. Mostly Sunny High 69 low 46.
Both teams will have their A game on display. I expect some hard hits.
