Cheyenne names new football coach

Cheyenne High School promoted junior varsity football coach Perryn Hale on Tuesday to varsity coach. Hale has been handling most of the program’s administrative duties since former coach Charles Anthony was released in January.

An announcement was made to Cheyenne’s teachers at the end of the school day Tuesday. Hale also coached freshman basketball for the Desert Shields.

“He is going to be sorely missed by the basketball program,” said Teral Fair, Cheyenne’s varsity basketball coach. “I would describe him as a players’ coach who is real committed to kids.”

Cheyenne, which finished 10-2 in 2008, has lost to Bishop Gorman the last two years in the Sunset Regional semifinals. Anthony went 42-12 in five years with Cheyenne.
