Football recruiting updates

With National Signing Day (Feb. 4) rapidly approaching, we decided to check in with some of the area's top recruits to see how the recruiting process is going.

Although there are no new commitments to report, many players have narrowed down their college choices to a select few finalists.

Cheyenne linebacker Damien Proby is down to Northwestern and Oregon State. He said his decision will come before Signing Day.

• Proby's friend and potential future college teammate, Cheyenne lineman Jeremiah Tofaeono originally leaned toward Oregon State as the front runner, but now says Washington, Utah, Utah State and Nevada-Reno are his final four choices.

Palo Verde linebacker Liloa Nobriga will visit Colorado this weekend and will decide between the Buffaloes, Hawaii, Utah and UNLV.

• Although he rushed for nearly 1,800 yards this season, Palo Verde running back Chaz Thomas is still waiting on Division I offers, but he has not given up on the idea of trying to walk on somewhere.

• Despite injury problems, Las Vegas High defensive lineman Alanzi Langstaff is visiting UNR and he has been in contact with Boise State and California.

Faith Lutheran quarterback/safety David Sperry will visit the Naval Academy this weekend before heading to San Diego on Jan. 31.
