Findlay Prep

Highly touted junior Thompson headed to Findlay Prep

Tristan Thompson, a 6-foot-9 power forward who Rivals.com ranks as the No. 5 prospect in the 2010 recruiting class, will join Findlay Prep this week.

The 26-0 Pilots currently rank second in the Super 25 poll by USA Today.

Thompson, a Toronto native, was let go from the program at St. Benedict's in Newark, N.J., earlier this week following a run-in with coach Dan Hurley.

"We're excited that Tristan wants to continue his education here," Findlay assistant Todd Simon told ESPN.com. "We have room on the roster, but he's more of a long-term player. I don't know what kind of contribution he will make this season because this team has tremendous chemistry going, but he's a talented student-athlete."

Thompson has plenty of connections already with the Findlay program. He committed to Texas back in March, which means he'll be teaming up for the time being with future Longhorn teammate Avery Bradley. He's also a childhood friend of current Pilot junior guard Cory Joseph.

"There's obviously a comfort zone with Cory already here," Simon told ESPN.com. "Cory's had a good experience here and that was the draw."

Rumors now are also swirling regarding the future addition of sophomore guard Myck Kabongo, who currently plays at St. Benedict's and committed to Texas last month. He's also a childhood pal of Thompson and Joseph.

Thompson played in Las Vegas over the summer, when he was named the MVP of the adidas Super 64. He scored 19 points in the championship game, as his Grassroots Canada Elite squad topped the Compton Magic.

Oddly enough, Thompson could end up facing St. Benedict's relatively soon, as Findlay could face them in the National High School Invitational in North Bethesda, Md., between April 3-5.
