Technorati

Brewer: I thought you picked Palo Verde to go all the way this year, so why are you falling off of the bandwagon now. The good thing is you've picked against us most of the year in big games, i.e. Del Sol, Cheyenne, and we've gone unscathed.
Please remind everyone that this game will be carried by three media outlets, two on radio and of course our live internet broadcast.
The game will be featured as KDWN 720am's Game of the Week. For Bishop Gorman listeners, KNUU 970am will be calling the game as well. And, for the fourth consecutive year, Palo Verde is live on the internet at www.network1sports.com at 6:40pm this Friday night with Panther pre-game.
David Bell --- Voice of the Panthers
Until very recently I never had a feeling about the Panthers one way or the other, but after witnessing how little class this organization had in the middle school football league (which had coaches from PV and used PV practice facilities despite not being a high school program), it will be difficult to ever consider cheering for this squad.
There is also talk (RUMOR) about how freely the zoning exceptions are handed out at Palo which is aided by the fact that Coach Rost's wife is a top official in the school district. I have no idea if there are any illegal football players, but it sure warrants at least a glance by the NIAA considering the amount of talk I've heard.
I hope we end up having a great game on Friday, I just hope all teams have played fair.
Honestly, I know nothing about the middle school program or the school's zoning as I work in the business sector as a Project Manager for a commercial flooring firm. I have just been around PVHS since my daughter started there back in 1997, first as the Public Address Announcer for the football and basketball programs, and then onto the internet in 2005.
I spoke with you briefly after the Del Sol game to let you know that you guys do a fantastic job and the new website is awesome. It's good to see someone giving the Reno Gazette Journal a run for their money in regard to top notch prep coverage.
I believe we will have a great game as the two schools are so evenly match statistically talking, from opponents overall records, to points scored / allowed to results against common opponents. As for the playing fair point, I wish I had more insight to speak on that with you, but I don't.
However, now you bring up a point where a public school that, by rule, is not allowed to recruit, is going up against a private school that can. The only players that have moved into PV's zone that I know of are Sidney Hodge, who transferred from Texas, and Liloa Nobriga, who moved here from Hawaii.
Since you mentioned you spoke with me after the Del Sol game, I think you have me mistaken for someone else, I am in no way affiliated with this newspaper, just a parent of a youth football player.
As far as the recruitment rules, Gorman's (legal) private school rules are no excuse for a public school to break their set of rules if that were the case.
I'm just stating because on several occasions it was mentioned that "if your child is a good enough football player and can't go to Palo because of where they live, don't worry, they CAN go to Palo."
No idea if it actually happens. But I can't imagine hearing it from so many sources that it is completely made up, either.
Me personally? With what Summerlin has become, Palo is no longer the shining star in the school district...I'd never send my kid there.

Keep up the lively debate football fans, just wanted to give you a heads up on who is who.

Ray and Brent, how did you guys do last week with your 3a picks against Truckee? Looks to me like you got it wrong again, The score's going to be Truckee 20- Moapa Valley 14.
Just like I said after last weeks picks, these two guys (Brewer and Hinckley) do not follow 3A football. They haven't actually been to a 3A game, so I wouldn't read too much into their 3A predictions. Those who actually follow 3A football know that Truckee is a great team. They have lots of good players who make plays. Despite the lack of respect that Truckee is getting in the Las Vegas newspapers, Moapa Valley respects Truckee, and the MV players know that it is going to be a hard fought game. I look forward to seeing a great game. And all you 4A people, if you want to see some good football come to Arbor View Saturday night for an exciting, close game.
VegasVegas: I apologize for mistaking you for Ray Brewer of the Home News, I just thought the reply was to the post that I had started with.
Your information is really interesting to me, and since I consider myself part of the media, although a small part, I will talk to Coach Rost about your concerns off of the record. If I feel it has a place in reference to Friday night's game, I will gladly ask the coach for a comment. Not only in regard to the middle school program (I honestly didn't know there was one) as well as the zoning question, which I feel is pertinent to any prep coverage.
Thank you for the information, I will attempt to verify its' validity.
