Maurice Newby's three beats MU in 1990

OKLAHOMA CITY — If Ali Farokhmanesh's 3-pointer from 25-feet out on the left wing in the closing seconds to beat UNLV on Thursday night wasn't the biggest shot in Northern Iowa hoops history, it's got to at least be No. 1a.

You've probably never heard of Maurice Newby, and until yesterday, neither had UNI coach Ben Jacobson.

But Newby, 20 years ago, hit a shot from almost the exact same spot as Farokhmanesh in the opening round of the NCAA tourney to help No. 14 UNI upset No. 3 Missouri.

(Sidenote: By the way, thank goodness I no longer have to type that kid's name. It still takes me two tries every time to get it right.)

The shot is in the embedded video and is probably the second-greatest part of the clip behind only the atrociously huge hair every cheerleader sported back in the day.
