The Venetian has won a slew of accolades over the years, including top awards like the AAA Five Diamond Award and Mobil Four Star Award. But soon the luxury property may be adding one of the most bizarre to its lengthy list.

The Venetian’s upscale Italian restaurant, Zeffirino Ristorante, is up for the award. It’s not for the food or the service or the ambiance, but the bathroom. The restaurant’s restroom is one of 10 finalists in the America’s Best Public Restroom contest, presented by Cincinnati-based Cintas Corporation.

The award is the top honor of restroom awards. Cintas, which manufactures everything from uniforms to restroom supplies, has been naming America’s best bathrooms since 2002.

The nomination said Zeffirino’s restrooms have features such as “custom-made mosaic tile artwork, Carra marble floors, Venetian plaster, Murano glad chandeliers and washbasins, limestone water fountain and private restroom suites.”

Other contenders for the award this year: Radio City Music Hall (New York), Macy’s Department Store (San Francisco), The Tremont Plaza Hotel (Baltimore), Shoji Tabuchi Theatre (Branson, Mo.), Canlis Restaurant (Seattle), The Tampa Theatre (Tampa), NOVA 535 (St. Petersburg, Fla.), The Fox Theatre (Detroit) and The Drake Hotel (Chicago).

A Las Vegas loo has never taken the top prize, but Mix’s bathroom at Mandalay Bay has made the ABR Hall of Fame.

Fans can vote for their favorite spot online at www.bestrestrooms.com. Winners will be announced in August.
