Primm hotel rates for locals: free

Remember the days when casinos gave away rooms and meals to attract gamblers?

Herbst Gaming, which is close to bankruptcy, is resurrecting a bygone tradition by offering locals a free one-night stay at any one of its three Primm hotels, two complimentary passes to amusement rides and two free tickets to a burlesque cabaret at Whiskey Pete's.

Call it the Red Light Recession Special.

The offer, which begins on Wednesday, is available through Dec. 31 at www.primmspecials.com.

Herbst began giving away tickets to arena shows at Primm during the summer.

For non-locals, rooms at its Buffalo Bill's, Whiskey Pete's and Primm Valley Resort casinos can now be had for less than $30 Monday through Thursday.

  1. different rates for local customers and a higher rate for ones from out of state? I thought Congress didn't allow this.

  2. not too smart are you?

  3. Disneyland in Anaheim has long had the practice of offering discount rates to SoCal residents in certain zip codes. In addition, Disneyland gives out free admission tickets to residents who live close enough that the nightly fireworks can be considered annoying.

  4. Are the bed bugs free as well?

  5. Now this is 'thinking outside the box' and innovative to say the least. Vegas and other places should look at this model and possibly implement if it goes well here... Giving something away for free almost always builds loyalty, how to keep that loyalty with the locals is another story. Good for you Primm... and again hats off for taking a 'chance'.

  6. It's called desperation

  7. How is giving away your product for free 'thinking outside the box' and innovative?

  8. Does the roller coaster still function?

  9. yeah, but it's a painful ride. The thing will give you whiplash.

  10. Ok, I'm no Harvard business major, but I know a good thing when I see it. In my opinion, when you offer the room for free, it allows the individual to take that savings and justify putting it into the recreations that facility has to offer..., whatever that may be, Gaming/Shows/Restaurants...... I do remember waaaaaay back when, and that's as late as 1997 some Vegas casinos, believe it or not were GIVING the rooms away for FREE or in my case a 7 day 6 night stay at Treasure Island for $7.00 total. Lets run this down so everybody gets it... airfare/room =210.00 and a additional 80.00 for a cheepie car rental -that's a cheap trip in any timeframe. So being I did not have a 30.00 to 100.00 room rate per day I took those monies and blew them accordingly... and had a good time doing it. Now, if I had to pay today's rates adjusted for inflation that would mean I would have to pay a additional (best guess please) 500.00 - 900.00 for that same trip per person. I don't know about you but that's a lot of cash to spend for a bed/shower/tv, and that's all the room is... a place to 'recharge' especially when your talking Vegas baby. The Innovation or outside the box thinking is making that room free so the above mentioned (hopefully) can take place... and your right Tvegas it is desperation... hands down, no doubt, but that desperate move could turn out to be the best odds this state has seen in quite a while. Well I live here now and if the Vegas strip would do something similar I don't need a crystal ball to foresee how many locals would take the casinos up on a similar offer...... um, quite a few would, don't you think? The overhead of operating the rooms for free and rolling the dice to hope the 'house' can make the 'point' are less than leaving them empty.

  11. How about offering some decent games instead of the ripoff table games presently in Primm? Double deck blackjack that pays only 6 to 5? A disgusting ripoff. These creeps deserve to be bankrupt. Further commentary: http://www.thebeargrowls.com/?p=114

  12. Hey it just might work! It might bring in some business.

  13. How bout a free room on the strip on a friday or saturday for locals who have out of town company staying and paying for their room?

  14. No charge for the bedbugs either.

  15. Maybe the family should stop racing their 500,000$ trucks in the Baja

  16. yeah they gave away the rooms so people could spend more gambling... but that was only so the mob could skim more off the top..the average person spends 400 so that means most people gamble 100-200... regardless vegas just isnt just about gambling anymore they have world class restaurants and great shows and concerts

  17. Desperation indeed. The long-term problem with giving rooms away now is that then people will expect and demand free rooms forever. I realize its what they have to do now just to try to drum up a few bucks in other spending, but the strategy is hardly "brilliant".

Great place to play golf though. Love the two courses out there.

  18. Is there any truth to the rumor that Whiskey Pete's has shut down? A friend passed through Primm this past weekend and said that the casino appears to be closed!

  19. OK throw in a free gas card and I might go, PS. NEIMAN 1 - about those different rates, It,s like woman never pay a cover charge to get into a nightclub but guys get nailed at the door everytime. nothing fair man, they just want to fill the place. SAD BUT TRUE

  20. Ungreatfull is all I can Say.

  21. i think its a great idea i wish other casinos would jump on board

  22. State Line really is not very much fun. They need to totally revamp the place into a huge amusement park, with all sorts of wild attractions like giant dinosaurs that you can walk up into, go cart racetracks, trampoline center, huge wavepool, bungi jumps, every kind of food place imaginable, you know.. make it like Coney Island! then people will stop and get off the Interstate to check it out!

  23. Well, at least they are not like the Westin Causarina, where the name of the game is to rip the customer off.

My family and I thought we could enjoy a few days there. First vacation in years, anniversary too.

We woke at 5 a.m. with fumes in the room. Westin employees claim paint, but refused to enter the room and get a snoot full. Transferred and isolated on 9th floor where construction was planned. When we complained, they told the main office my disabled husband and I had requested a floor with construction and carpet laying to be near the sweaty men! Believe That one!

One month later, they have messed with our debit card, refused phone calls, laughed and convinced our bank their three year perfect customer took advantage of the poor casino, hotel and spa. we have proof bill paid in full..It's a shame that Bill's struggles after Westin double dipped from us. Bill's had honest employees when we visited from down the street.
