Three games in Ohio over three nights and a pesky zone defense challenged Findlay College Prep on Monday night.
In the end, the Pilots eked out a 66-62 victory over Wayne (Ohio) in the Flyin’ to the Hoop tournament in Kettering, Ohio.
“We knew it would be a tough one,” said Findlay coach Mike Peck. “They have a very good coach and some young guards. Honestly, though, I didn’t think it would be that close.
“We managed to make some plays down the stretch.”
Texas-bound Avery Bradley scored 23 points, dished out 6 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds, and he was named tournament MVP.
Point guard Cory Joseph added 12 points and UNLV-bound center Carlos Lopez chipped in with 10.
Wayne outrebounded Findlay, which improved to 20-0.
“That’s a key as to why it was so close,” Peck said. “Our travel is wearing on us a little.”
