Findlay (18-0) allows Bedford two points in 2nd half

Findlay College Prep smashed Bedford, 92-21, in the Flyin’ to the Hoop tournament Saturday in Kettering, Ohio.

The Pilots (18-0) smothered Bedford with a 46-2 second half.

Senior forward Victor Rudd had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and UNLV-bound power forward Carlos Lopez added 12 and 10, with 4 assists and 3 blocked shots.

Junior power forward Godwin Okonji had 10 points and 9 boards, and junior point guard Cory Joseph recorded 8 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists.

Findlay led, 46-19, at halftime. Bedford, from Ohio, had eight field goals

“Another great defensive effort,” said Findlay coach Mike Peck, who improved to 50-1 as the Pilot’s boss. “What can you say when you hold a team to two points in the second half. Defense is definitely this team’s identity.

“We got better today as a team and program.”

Avery Bradley, the standout guard headed for Texas next fall, scored 9 points on 4-for-9 shooting in 15 minutes. With three games over three days, Peck chose to rest Bradley so he has optimum energy for the next two games of the tournament.

Findlay, ranked second in the latest USA Today Super 25 national poll, has a much-anticipated game against Cleveland (Ohio) Garfield Heights on Sunday.

Peck said the Pilots are ready.

“As much as we’re going to be,” he said. “It’ll be a different game, no doubt about that.”
