Findlay Prep

Findlay, still undefeated, falls to No. 3 in USA Today

Findlay College Prep is perfect this basketball season, yet USA Today still dropped it from No. 2 to No. 3 in the Super 25 national poll it released today.

The Pilots (24-0) won three games at the Montverde (Fla.) Invitational over the weekend and next play Foothill on Feb. 11 at the Henderson International School.

Findlay coach Mike Peck is 56-1 in two seasons coaching Findlay, a third-year program that is affiliated with the prestigious Henderson International.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei (22-0) is atop the USA Today poll, but that might change soon.

Andy Brown, a 6-foot-8 guard headed to Stanford next fall, tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last week and is out for the season.

“It’s a dark day around here,” Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight told the Orange County Register.

Newark (N.J.) St. Benedict’s Prep (23-0) jumped over Findlay to second in the USA Today national rankings, which could get jumbled by the end of the week.

St. Benedict’s plays No. 9 Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick on Wednesday and travels to Southern California to play Mater Dei in the Monarchs’ Nike Extravaganza on Saturday.

The Monarchs won’t have Brown, but McKnight still has David and Travis Wear, who are going to North Carolina, and Gary Franklin and Tyler Lamb.
