Ex-Pilots forward Rudd signs with Arizona State

Former Findlay College Prep basketball player Victor Rudd signed with Arizona State on Wednesday afternoon.

“I just left him and he’s crying like a baby, he’s so happy,” said Bill Hankins, Rudd’s guardian, from the San Fernando Valley area north of Los Angeles.

A high-flying 6-foot-7 forward, Rudd bolted from Findlay in February. He had served a one-game suspension during the season for failing to turn in a paper and was serving another suspension when he left the program.

He had been interested in UNLV, and Marquette, Arizona, Gonzaga and Oregon State were some of the other schools on his long list.

Hankins said ASU is a fantastic fit for Rudd because he should be able to get extensive playing time next season and the Pacific-10 Conference should prep him well for the next level.

Hankins also said Rudd watched Findlay win the ESPN RISE National High School Invitational two weekends ago in Maryland.

“Without a doubt,” Hankins said. “Those still are our friends. We’re very happy for them. We knew they’d get it done, Victor just had to do what was best for him.

“We’re glad that everything worked out for everybody involved.”
