Wooing Hampton

Doug Hampton, the man whose wife had an affair with U.S. Sen. John Ensign (R-Nevada), has been the hottest "get" in news circles (with the exception of his wife, Cindy) since Ensign admitted the affair at a brief news conference last month. Well, we got him and you can watch the first of our exclusive two-part interview tonight on Las Vegas ONE, Cox Cable channel 19. The Sun will post the program to its website Wednesday, too, for those who don't have cable.

My credo in life and work is "It's better to be lucky than good." It's worked well and helped us land guests at fortuitous times. But the credit in this case is all Jon's and it has everything to do with being good and nothing to do with luck. Our only good fortune on this story is that Fox News gave it a pass and Doug Hampton had the sense to eventually reach out to Jon, whom he recognized as an authority on the story as well as someone who would capture national attention.

Throughout the next two days some will question whether the "tabloid nature" of the subject is beneath the standards of a fine production like Face to Face. My answer is simple: Ask John Ensign.
