On tonight's program Metro Sheriff Doug Gillespie defends the SWAT operation that resulted in the shooting of three officers. Gillespie was on his way to a ceremony to honor the officers, who thankfully suffered relatively minor injuries.
Gillespie offers reasonable explanations for the officers' actions but some viewers are likely to be left wondering if Metro could have taken another course to reduce the risk to the lives of the police as well as the children inside the home.
Metro has invited me to ride along on a SWAT operation soon so that I may second-guess from a more informed position in the future.
Gillespie also addresses the revelation from a Face to Face exclusive that a private investigator working for Jeff Guinn, the son of then-Governor Kenny Guinn, obtained confidential information from a Metro detective on more than 200 Las Vegans back in 2006.
What's happened since we broke the story? Pretty much nothing. The cop, Paul Osuch, resigned a few weeks early. He declined to come in for questioning as did the private investigator, Jim Thomas, also a former cop. Gillespie admits Metro has not notified the affected citizens that their confidential information has been breached but admits it's in order.

Anyone who believes a word that comes out of Gillespie's mouth is an idiot.
Im sure Sheriff Gillespie will take the appropriate actions and discipline anyone committing any wrong doing.Sheriff Gillespie is not being accused of any wrong doing and there are alot of officers to keep an eye on.
Homer you should stop smearing the sheriff unless you have something more to say implicating the sheriff in some kind of wrong doing.
As a kid we used to say "Liar, Liar, pants on Hire" Well Gillespie, your PANTS are on Fire. Your officers "Screwed up" and instead of rewarding them, they all should be fired. Hopefully, you do not get elected again. Funny how your fine, fine officer "forgot" to put on the inventory this supposed Marijuana; if they claim to be going after some "big" time Drug dealer, how and why would they forget the "main" item they were serving a search warrant on...Come on. Had your "officers" done a proper and complete pre-investigation, you could have just picked him up at work.
jake, may I suggest you consider moving to Cuba? I think you would be much happier living under a government that does all your thinking for you.
Why should I move to Cuba?I am a free thinking American.I think it is more dishonest of people to besmirch someone's reputation without proof.
jake, so far your "free thinking" has been in lock-step with the establishment, never questioning it, always defending it. I submit that authority should always be questioned and made to justify every action.
In another piece (the on the fertilizer spill) you admonish the Sun for publishing info that you say can help terrorists. Here, you automatically assume that the Sheriff, and by extension his men, have done nothing wrong simply because they are part of law-enforcement.
It certainly appears to me that you are not capable of free-thought but instead accept everything the government tells you as fact. Hence I think you might be happy in Cuba.
The one time you say anything that is somewhat counter to Big Brother is the time you wished a victim of an attack on a bus had carried a gun. That implies that a citizen should take responsibility for his safety for himself, something you have otherwise delegated entirely to the government.
No where did you read written by me that some police officers didn't do anything wrong.I beleive that the sheriff is a no nonsense guy and if there is any wrong doing he will take care of it.
You smear me simply because I refuse to go along with your line of thinking. That sounds more like communism than having an opinion of one's own.
You should stop putting words in people's mouth.I have never delegated anything entirely to any government.Period.I admonish the newspaper because yes I think it is foolish to print certain things that may be used by some people to harm others. As was noted in the paper the material was the same kind of material used in the Oklahoma City bombing.
But you still have not offered any proof of the sheriff doing any wrong doing.Instead you steer the argument into another direction, attacking me.
The use of fertilizer to make explosives is very well known, probably more so that the formula for gunpowder is today. I would bet that if I talk about ammonia and bleach you would get upset, too.
What I took issue with is your total support for the Sheriff when the information being reported about that incident raises serious questions about the operation of his department. That support, combined with your other statements, suggests to me that you are far from being a "free thinker", but instead just blindly accept anything that those in authority tell you is correct. I'm willing to bet that you think warrantless wiretaps are a Good Idea (tm).
