Consultants: No second term for Gibbons

Personally, I'm enjoying Jim Gibbons' tenure as governor. Anyone required to conjure up compelling TV topics five days a week recognizes the perks of having a guy like Gibbons at the state's helm. You already know the litany - from Nannygate to Trouble with Trepp to Marital Mayhem in the Mansion - we've gotten plenty of mileage out of the governor during his brief service.

So it was with some sadness and regret that I learned during today's taping from consultants on both sides of the aisle that Jim Gibbons' first term will be his last.

Conservative operative Steve Wark predicts Gibbons could never raise enough money to run again. Just weeks ago Wark predicted Dawn Gibbons' absence from the inner circle would breath new life into the administration. Guess those hopes were short-lived.

Tomorrow: Las Vegas Sun reporter Alexandra Berzon, who has chronicled the series of fatal construction accidents at Strip projects, is joined by colleague Michael Mishak. The two discuss what appears to be union boss Steve Ross' epiphany since the latest death. Ross also joins Jon to talk about the quickly-resolved walkout at CityCenter and what concessions the unions received from general contractor Perini Building Company.

  1. Las Vegas Sun reporter Alexandra Berzon is without a doubt the best reporter in this state. She was EXTREMELY impressive with the job she did on the OSHA stories which were honest and real and brought about change. Clearly she is knowledgeable and fantastic, honest and tough. Her investigation was nothing short of brilliant and called out ALL of the players in the OSHA situation for their lack of concern for the working person. I, for one, was fascinated at what can happen when a newspaper in this town actually investigates and reports the news without concern for their relationships with the players. CONGRATULATIONS to the Sun for being the first to make that happen in my 25 years in this town.

Now, what needs to happen is that Ms. Berzon is allowed to investigate the happenings in our justice system with the same fervor and without regard for what oxes that she needs to gore.
