Earlier this year, Iranian hackers did some damage to the Sands Corp., shutting down computers and servers, wiping hard drives, and bringing email and most phones to a halt, in response to political comments made by its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson.
Bloomberg Businessweek reports that after some incendiary remarks Adelson made in public about how the United States should handle negotiations with Iran about its nuclear program, Iranian hackers began to look for weaknesses in the Sands' computer networks, first targeting the Sands Bethlehem in Pennsylvania in January, then attacking the Las Vegas computer networks in February.
The extent of the destruction wasn't evident on the outside as hotel keycards, slot machines and elevators were still running at the Venetian and Palazzo properties, however, the next day, the company's websites were vandalized.
