Vegas nightclub company sues Maine restaurant over name

In New York and Las Vegas, celebrities like Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears and Beyoncé count themselves among the regulars at TAO.

On Tuesday, the owners of TAO filed a federal lawsuit in Portland, Maine, against a new family-run restaurant on Pleasant Street in Brunswick that bears the same name, saying the similarities could confuse the public.

    He doubts anything about a small restaurant in Maine would confuse the public over a Las Vegas club that charges $600++ for a bottle of liquor and $60 for a six pack of Red Bull.

    Sounds like a big bully corporation picking on a small business.

  2. Sounds like a company protecting their name and trademarks that they earned and paid for.

    Anyone that thinks different has not ever created anything worth protecting.

  3. Chunky needs to look up "trademark dilution".

    It's an unfortunate aspect of the law that failing to defend your trademark, even in cases where there is likely to be no confusion, can result in you losing the ability to defend your trademark entirely.
