Pac-10 set to offer membership invites to six Big 12 schools?

A report on Thursday by OrangeBloods.com, which is a member site of Yahoo!'s Rivals network, said that, according to multiple sources, the Pac-10 is preparing to extend membership invites to six of the 12 schools in the Big 12 conference.

The invites are expected to go to Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Colorado. The move could potentially make the Pac-10 the first 'super-conference' amidst talks around the country of league expansions. At the same time, if it happened, it would destroy the Big 12, leaving behind just Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Nebraska.

The thought behind the Pac-10's move would be the formation of a TV network, which could in turn provide each of the 16 member schools $20 million in TV revenue. If the six mentioned schools moved to the Pac-10 and the network formed, it would cover schools located in seven of the nation's top 20 TV markets: Los Angeles, Dallas, San Francisco, Houston, Phoenix, Seattle and Sacramento.

The story's relevance to the Mountain West Conference is that Utah has long been rumored to be a potential option for the Pac-10 if the league were to expand.
