BYU coach Rose out after surgery following illness in Vegas

(via Associated Press) · June 10, 2009 · 10:35 PM

BYU men's basketball coach Dave Rose, who is 97-34 in four seasons at the helm in Provo, will be out indefinitely following emergency surgery over the weekend.

Rose fell ill during a family reunion in Las Vegas over the weekend, and had to have his spleen removed. A statement from the university said that he will be out for several weeks while recovering.

Rose's assistants will assume his duties while he bounces back. That includes former UNLV player and assistant coach Dave Rice, who is entering his fifth season on the Cougars' bench.
