UNLV AD Hamrick named Marshall athletic director

(via Huntington Herald-Dispatch) · July 19, 2009 · 10:05 PM

Updating a Sunday story by the Sun, it's now official: UNLV AD Mike Hamrick -- a West Virginia native -- is leaving Las Vegas to become athletic director at Marshall.

It was announced at a press conference today in Huntington, W.Va.

Hamrick was in Huntington on Sunday evening, spending time at the house of Marshall President Stephen J. Kopp.

“UNLV Athletics thrived under Mike’s leadership, and he’s been critical to the success of our student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom,” said Acting UNLV President Neal Smatresk. “Mike guided tremendous improvements to UNLV’s athletics programs with key coaching hires, new and improved facilities, and strong multimedia partnerships that provide the university important national exposure and a solid foundation for future success. Marshall will benefit greatly from Mike’s leadership.”

  1. Good for Mike. Maybe now his talents will be appreciated. Remember, Rebels fans, the grass is always greener...

  2. Thank you Marshall. You have done us a tremendous favor.

  3. Maybe there's room at Marshall for Sanford?

  4. I have thrown my hat into the ring for the AD job. I am a Las Vegas native, a UNLV grad, a member of the NV state bar, and I bleed scarlet and gray. We are looking into the gray, but it has the doctors baffled.

UNLV, please give me a call at 1-800-ILOVEBRANDNEWCARPET.

  5. Give Sanford one more season. If he is not 7-5 this season, let the secret year long look begin. If he is not 6-6 fire him on the spot.

  6. Marshall is the place where most of the football team died in a plane crash. I wish them more luck in the future! They don't play the walking rebels!
