There's excellent coverage of the US prez campaign on The Guardian, a progressive but fair Brit newspaper, the largest in England. Here's an excellent, unbiased and insightful column today:
http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/rich...
They really have a good objective and historical perspective since they're not emotionally involved.
Important is that they compare this primary to the Democrats close primary in 1984- Walter Mondale, former VP and Gary Hart, a progressive Senator from Colorado. Hart was a young new honest face and won many states but Mondale pulled out the nomination (on the basis of experience and party ties). Mondale lost 49 out of 50 states, the worst Democratic defeat in history.
There's also another article on Mayor Bloomberg that makes clear that he's waiting to see if either Obama is nominated by the Democrats or McCain by the Republicans. If neither is then he's definitely in and will spend at least $1 Billion of his $20 Billion to guarantee that he gets elected. ( By comparison Ross Perot spent $35 million, chump change even then.)
Emotions aside, it's a safe bet the next president will be Obama, McCain, or Bloomberg.
Wow!!!! Look at this!!!!!!

I think African Americans will see that Barack Hussein Obama is just using them.
He seems to think he is above both black and white people.
part of his debate answer deciding to run for President
"My children are above average so they can take it."
Sounds like he is a snobby PTA mom.
We, people of color (hispanics and african-Americans) are the same people who were dumb enough to elect George Bush in 2000, the same people who nominated a candidate who "voted for the war before he was against it", the same people who saved Bill Clinton's presidency during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. But Bill Clinton used us and dumped us like he used and dumped Monica Lewinsky.
The Clintons only show up when they need our votes, and then they disappear and show up again in the next election. We don't want someone like that in the white house - ever again!
OBAMA DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE OUR PRESIDENT
Obama was AWOL from his Senate seat and did not vote a record 130 times!!! when it came time to '"change" America, some "agent for change" Obama is!
In Illinois Obama fixed his wife's salary doubling it to $365,000.00 a year while he was doing nothing for the people of Illinois.
Obama's supporters are rude, vicious people from what we have encountered steadily, obviously not deserving of their candidate winning anything let alone the White House.
Obama encourages his supporter's ill behavior like he did with his smear job "stand up" routine attack on Hillary at a high school yesterday. Why not ask Hillary those questions instead of a bunch of high school kids coward?
Obama has not paid his dues like Hillary has.
Obama's health care plan leaves millions of Americans out in the cold!!
Obama and his campaign workers constantly use bait and switch attacks on their fellow Democrats. Being sneaky and dishonest are hardly traits we need all over again for 4 - 8 more years like we've suffered through with Bush.
After Obama slanders Hillary he plays innocent and becomes Mr. Nice guy, and it's "let's all have a truce" when he was the one who instigated the whole thing! never mind a truce, how about an apology Mr. Arrogant!?
Obama has no experience compared to Hillary, only a Jr. Senator 2 short years to Hillary's 7 years, including her re-election.
Obama stooped to playing a false race card effectively dividing the Democrats, pitting Democrat against Democrat and Black against White, how does Obama expect to unite the whole country when his false race accusations have split his OWN party? Hillary was simply making a point that it takes team work between leaders like MLK and FDR to get work done, and she is right! because she knows from her experience how it's done! MLK Jr. even said "Hillary didn't mean anything against his father"
Obama is too young and inexperienced to be President, JFK had 14 years in the Congress and Senate before he ran, and Obama is no JFK, how arrogant a comparison is that?
Obama steals lines from MLK and JFK for his speeches in an attempt to dupe his zombie youth, clone army into thinking he is as great as MLK and JFK. Hey Obama, here's a clue! accomplish something first like MLK and JFK did! and be original, "I have a dream" ?? get your OWN line!
Obama is a "dreamer" Hillary is a "doer"
Voting for Obama just because he says he "has a dream" is like voting for Bush because you can "sit and have a beer with him"
Hillary said herself yesterday..
"I want to get back to where we were before President Bush became president, when the budget was balanced and the economy was running a surplus"
and in regards to Obama, Hillary said..
"My leading opponent the other day said he thought Republicans had the better ideas for the last 10 to 15 years," she said. "That's not how I remember the last 10 to 15 years.."
the choice is yours Nevada..
Obama's second largest campaign contributer is Exelon Corp, the largest nuclear energy company in America, so much for the environment! We already have a President and Vice President tied to big energy screwing us and endangering our environment, we don't need another one!
Obama and his wife are both quite obviously a very materialistic pair, as evidenced by their lush lifestyle. Bill Clinton is right! Obama is the Establishment Candidate, just look at his 'health care plan' it only covers those who can afford it!
We already have a President we are trying to be rid of giving all our money away to foreigners, we don't need another one.
We already have a President we are trying to be rid of that bases his judgments on what "God tells him to do" and that helped cause Bush's Iraq war!! we don't need another one.
We already have a President we are trying to be rid of who refuses to hold people accountable who screw up when they work for him, we certainly don't need another one. Hillary on the other hand quickly fired several of her people when they stepped out of line, she does not mess around or cover people who step out.
Obama uses the "roll technique" in speeches used by preachers to brain wash their followers into believing anything they tell them! Cult leaders use this technique to brainwash their followers into "believing" too, beware!
Obama is very arrogant talking down to Hillary in his blatant disrespect for her being a woman, 15 years Obama's senior and First Lady for 8 years, how egotistical and arrogant!
Obama is disrespectful along with his snotty, clueless followers to Bill Clinton too thumbing their noses at Bill's incredible legacy and all the great things he has done for America and poor people all over the world.
Hillary is a great lady and ready to lead on day one, she already knows exactly what to do! and we need change NOW.
Hillary All the Way!!!
OBAMA 08
Your vote can transform the country or take us back eight years. Your choice.
Hitlery all the way!! Reminds me of 1939... Furthermore, Bring out the purple Koolaide. Good Lord. Please name one person that Hillary has personally helped. Name one accomplishment that she alone has done for the betterment of this country......The only time EITHER Clinton does anything if it is self serving.
"Clinton camp creating own crowds"
Am I the only one who thought this meant they were hiring fake crowds?
It wouldn't have surprised me anyway. You never know what to expect with a desperate campaign. o.O
dd No, I am with you... They are busing them in from all over.. Just like in NH....If you look real hard they might even have the dead voting just like in Chicago, and Philadelphia!!
Hillary!! Hillary!! Hillary!!
Hillary!! Hillary!! Hillary!!
Hillary!! Hillary!! Hillary!!
Hillary!! Hillary!! Hillary!!
Hillary!! Hillary!! Hillary!!
You can't knock down our spirit no matter how hard you try you Obama zombies!!
WE LOVE YOU HILLARY!!
Hillary in 08!!
dd,
Maybe you are too young to recall, but, those eight years were really great. There were many reasons why desipte all of the Republican attacks that Bill had 60% approval. If only Bill could've ran a third term...
Now about Reagan. Obviously most of the writers are too young to remember him. This was one of the worst and most polarizing presidents. Remember he was subject of impeachment requests--and not for issues like Monica. But, instead, real crimes. Reagan's only real defense was that he was hands-off (something Obama thinks is good) and was already suffering Althiemers while still in office).
I am not sure what constituency Obama is trying to lure, but I am shocked that any union member would support a candidate liking Reagan. Any Consitution and freedome loving Democrat shouldn't. Maybe as written, there is a sucker born every minute.
It's about Trust.
There is no quality more important in a President than integrity. It's what bridges the gap between words and actions.
We have to trust that what a presidential candidate says they will do is actually what they intend to do. No candidate will be 100% successful in their plan, but we must at least start with someone we can trust and who's plan has a reasonable chance of success.
Barack Obama is the candidate that will bridge the gap between words and actions. Yes, he is a freshman senator, but he has made a lifetime of choices that prove he is a man of integrity...a man we can trust to bring about the changes we need.
In his short time in the Senate, he has built the relationships on both sides of the aisle that will be critical in bringing about the changes that are necessary to put America back on the right track. The proof already exists in his Senate track record.
In two years, Obama has sponsored 152 resolutions and co-sponsored another 427. He has traveled extensively in Europe, Africa and the Middle East as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He has been heavily involved in immigration reform and border security, and introduced two successful initiatives toward controlling the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
He also has broad support among the people; among men, women, young and old, Democrat, Republican and Independent. Again, a critical measure of the support any president needs in implementing a plan. Barack Obama has it. Others do not.
This is an accomplished, top Harvard graduate and a successful civil rights attorney. A constitutional law professor of ten.....count them 10 years! He has fought the good fights and won. He puts his convictions ahead of wealth, as any good leader should.
He could easily have chosen to be a trial attorney, but he did not. He could have easily been lured into a lifestyle of drugs or alcohol, but he was not. Instead, he set out to defend the very rights that have been systematically taken away from us over the last seven years. What better person to swear an allegiance to defend the constitution?
Barack Obama is the product of two people that believed in the American dream and helped their son achieve it. It's what we all want for our own children, and their children's children.
He is the one, and the only one, that can restore the America for which so many people have fought and died. The America that is respected in the world and admired for our values and our democracy.
This is our chance, and we must not let it pass. Barack Obama is the one that can help us begin to repair what has been damaged...to restore hope through action.
With our vote, we can help make it a reality.
SCAMOBAMA is from Chicago's southside. His roots and his support are from Chicago's southside.
If anyone knows anything about making dead people vote it is the southside community leaders or leaches whichever you prefer.

Hillary Clinton's Dirty Campaign Tactics
By Steven Rosenfeld, AlterNet. Posted January 15, 2008.
In Iowa, New Hampshire and now Nevada, the Clinton campaign has sought to suppress the vote of her rivals' supporters.
The headlines say the latest schism among the top Democratic presidential candidates is over gender and race. But on the ground in the presidential season's opening states, there is a darker narrative: that Hillary Clinton will not just fight hard, but fight dirty, to win. And her tactic of choice is attempting to suppress the votes of her rival's supporters.
The latest example is from Nevada, where the Nevada State Education Association is widely seen as filing a suit on Clinton's behalf to stop Las Vegas' most powerful union, Culinary Workers Local 226, from caucusing inside downtown casinos after the union endorsed Barack Obama. The tactic foments a split along racial and class lines in arguably the strongest union city in America.
"It's horrible," said one longtime Nevada activist, who didn't want his name used. "It will cause fights and damage that will last for years."
But the Clinton campaign has made similar moves in New Hampshire and Iowa.
In the first primary state, her supporters -- backed by New Hampshire Democratic Party officials -- pressured poll workers to remove observers stationed by the Obama campaign. These volunteers had intended to track voters as part of their get-out-the-vote effort. That tactic came after the Clinton campaign sent a mailing targeting women that said Obama would not "stand up and protect" a women's right to choose because he had voted "present" -- but not yes -- on a few abortion-related bills in the Illinois legislature.
"I've kept most mailers I got from every presidential candidate this year, and that mailer was the absolute worst," wrote New Hampshire blogger Peter Glenshaw. "Never mind that Obama has a 100 percent approval rating from Planned Parenthood in Illinois. Never mind that Planned Parenthood asked him to vote 'present' on those bills."
And in Iowa, the Clinton campaign -- with the help of the state's largest newspaper, the Des Moines Register, which endorsed her -- was discouraging students from returning from winter break to vote, even though their right to do so was legal, said Rick Hasen, who writes a respected election law blog. "Indeed such voting could help to compensate for the otherwise anti-democratic nature of Iowa's role in the presidential election process," he said.
As the nomination process has unfolded and Clinton has encountered resistance in every state so far -- including Obama's Friday endorsement by the 60,000-member Las Vegas Culinary Workers Union -- her campaign's increasingly critical rhetoric has been accompanied by voter suppression tactics aimed at her rival's core voters.
While Clinton campaign surrogates have verbally accused Obama of many things, from "fairy tale" answers on Iraq to being a drug user while they served the country more nobly, intentionally suppressing voters -- especially under-represented, low-income minority union members -- stands out in 2008's Democratic presidential campaign.
After all, the Democratic National Committee moved Nevada's caucuses to the top of the primary lineup so minority voices could be heard -- and no organization is more aligned with those voters in Nevada than the Culinary Union, whose training materials for its members are printed in four languages. In contrast, the state teachers, whose suit seeks to stop those workers from caucusing in nine "at-large" precincts in big downtown casinos, have a statewide base because its members work throughout Nevada.
The NSEA suit claims the at-large casino caucuses are not fair to the state's other voters because they will likely be overrun with voters, thereby skewing the proportional representation of Clark County delegates to the state party convention.
Neither NSEA officials nor their Las Vegas lawyers returned calls on Monday. However their suit states that "by packing as much as 10 percent or more delegates into the county convention, the at-large precinct caucus system (created for the casinos) substantially diminishes the voting power of delegates from other county precinct caucuses."
In other words, a strong turnout from the tens of thousands of Culinary Workers Union members in Las Vegas, where 70 percent of Nevada voters live, could swing the state's early foray into presidential politics. In 2000, fewer than 1,000 people participated in Nevada's caucuses. In 2004, that number was about 9,000. This year, estimates are in the tens of thousands.
Nevada political insiders say the NSEA lawsuit is designed to suppress Obama's voters.
"That's the common narrative at this point," said Pilar Weiss, the Culinary Workers Union's political director, when asked if there was any other way to interpret the suit. "A caucus system is all proportional representation. It's not unfair in any way. They (the state Democratic Party) made an accommodation for Clark County."
Another Nevada activist who has worked for years in the state was even blunter.
"This (caucus) plan was created by some of the same people who are plaintiffs in the suit against it," he said. "It's not that they didn't like the plan when Clinton was ahead."
Digg!

I am an AA woman and how dare you attempt to speak for AA people. I wouldn't even dare speak for an entire race of people. Black People are not monolithic. We are different in our thoughts, actions, socio-economic backgrounds, education levels, and our votes!!!! We are the most diverse people on the planet!
Again, how dare you! Obama has the right to say his children are above average. My kids are too! So what? This man has a great sense of humor and people like you just like to stir the pot. His wife and kids are above average in general..forget race! I'm saying it..even if he didn't say it.
And what do you mean he's using black? He has not EVER run on his race in this campaign. NOT EVER. He is not Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton in any way, shape or form! HILLARY and BILL have USED blacks and now they feel blacks owe them something. I think they will be terribly surprised this go around....LOL. Bill and Hillary have not done anything for blacks or hispanics. They supported NAFTA--took jobs away to overseas. They signed in legislation (3 strikes and you are out) that sent more black young males to jail than to school during their administration! What have they done! It's all been a charade. I don't know why people believe them. First black president my behind. These people are closet bigots and people are seeing right through them now!
All of you Hispanics out there who believe in the Clintons..You'd BETTER WAKE UP!!! The Clintons did the same thing in the 90's to blacks. Now they know they have hurt their support greatly in the black community by revealing their true colors these past few weeks. Now they have run to you for support! It's an attempt to cause division between the black and Hispanic community. They will dump you too. Oh, they will come back when they need your votes definitely. This is what they do. It's like a mother who has a 'favorite' child. The child who does what they want that day becomes the favorite for the day. If you can't see that I am sorry for you!
The Clintons will do and say ANYTHING to get what they want. This campaign is ALL ABOUT THEM. Notice when Hillary speaks she says "I", "ME", "MY"..she never says "WE", "OUR", "US"... Obama does. Obama truly wants what is best for us all. Hillary and Bill are already causing great divisiveness and nastiness wherever they go..now it's in Nevada! They are evil. Hillary feels a false sense of entitlement to the 'throne'. However, she is not queen. She has no experience. She served as first lady. HER HUSBAND was the President! What has she done in the Senate? She's been working for 35 years (do your math--Hillary is 60---35 years ago she was a 25 year old law student...she's counting that as experience????) Oh yeah, and she started out as a Republican! Goldwater Girl! Look it up! She's a Dem because her husband is a Dem and because she always had a plan to get to the WH. This woman has stayed in a sexless marriage for years because she just wants to get to the top. You think Bill isn't cheating on Hillary today? He is and will continue because she is a doormat. I don't think a doormat can run the WH. She can't run her own house! I can't stand this woman and I can't wait until she is defeated today!
Obama's and Clinton's records on Yucca:
On April 18, 2002, the Illinois State Senate passed SR342 urging the U.S. Congress to support Bush on Yucca:
Illinois State Senate Resolution 342 "urges Congress to sustain President Bush's affirmative decision on Yucca Mountain's suitability as a permanent federal repository for high-level radioactive materials." [S.R. 342, 4/18/02]
Sen. Obama had the opportunity to speak out against the resolution but remained silent. From the State Senate transcript:
"Is there any discussion? Is there any discussion? If not, Senator Rauschenberger moves for the adoption of Senate Resolution 342. Those in favor say Aye. Opposed, Nay. The Ayes have it and the resolution was adopted." [Pg. 26, Illinois senate transcript, 4/18/02]
In contrast, when a similar resolution came before the U.S. Senate in July 2002, Hillary voted against the resolution and issued a press release underscoring her opposition.

Hey Hey! Ho Ho!
Obama's Got to Go!
Hey Hey! Ho Ho!
Obama's Got to Go!
Hey Hey! Ho Ho!
Obama's Got to Go!
Hillary All the Way!!!
Hillary all the way... alllll the way back to the 1990s. NO THANKS!!
:-D
Vote OBAMA now!!
GoObama=Michele Obama.
What an angry black woman you are.
I wonder who "HillaryNow" supports?
Why the hate for Obama? Are you a true Democrat?
It is amazing the level to which Hillary supporters, including Bill Clinton, have lashed out against Obama, simply because he threatens their "entitlement" to the nomination. The Clinton distortions on Obama are way out of bounds.
Obama's experience is not in Washington DC = true. We have not seen Obama on TV since the early 1990s = true. Is that good or bad? Make up your own mind.
The Clinton's and her staff and volunteers have no shame. From what I've seen from them these past few weeks, they don't deserve the presidency.
They take dirty rotten politics to a whole new level
What I regret about these recent weeks of dirty politics, is that Barack Obama, through no fault of his own, has been painted, in lurid colors, by the Clinton's(cause let's face it, Bill is running with Hillary this time:)) into a person he is really not. It's obvious that many people didn't know about Obama before this election heated up.
I'm not trying to sway anyone's vote, because we are all going to vote the way according to our own reason. All these heated exchanges and bare naked attempts to appeal to each other's emotions for the benefit of our chosen candidate are not likely to change our minds. But with that said, and no matter if Hillary winds up destroying Barack, or if magically people wind up supporting him in wild numbers again, Barack Obama has honestly led a remarkable political life, and has largely worked toward helping the poor, fighting corporate power, and working to improve health care.
Now, you may be skeptical of that, given all the press coverage and rumors that have been floating around, but it really is true. Read Time Magazines article - http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/...
Time's article is clear and concise, but if you'd rather read just a listing of facts on Obama, read the Wikipedia Encyclopedia entry on him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obam...
Barack has lived a fairly noble life, as far as politicians go. So I just don't think its fair the way the media, and the Clinton's are trying destroying his image. he's lead a good life, and honestly believes in the idea that our government would better if we'd minimize bipartisanship polarization. He's one of our better politicians, and even if he doesn't win, he's still going to keep fighting for the common good.
I support the only true blue Democrat in this race that is really for the American People! The one candidate that will make some serious changes on day one! Hillary Rodham Clinton
but au contraire! we really need to ask the question - "Who is Obama really for?"
- Obama supports the Republican Reagan doctrine - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/1/17/...
- Obama said recently that "I think it's fair to say the Republicans were the party of ideas for a pretty long chunk of time there over the last 10, 15 years" So Democrats have had no ideas in the last 10 - 15 years? What!? Some Democrat this guy is! Obama is just using the Democrats as a stepping stone to further his own career and personal agenda, quite obvious! So what Obama is saying then is Bill Clinton was a failure? 10 -15 years go was the period when Bill Clinton was President after all! and Reagan was Obama's hero?
- Obama's second largest campaign contributor is Exelon Corp. the largest provider of nuclear energy in America. You cannot get any more Republican than Exelon!
- Is it any wonder why Obama is so very disrespectful to the Clinton legacy of prosperity and success?
Doesn't sound like a true Democrat to me!
No the real question here is, Who does Obama really support?
These are not the qualities and traits of a true Democrat!
I smell traitor in fact, don't let him in people, with Republican "values" like Obama's just think of the damage he will do if we make that fatal mistake!
Hillary All the Way.
As an Independent, I will NOT vote for Hillary Clinton. If she is the best that the Democrats can muster, then I will carry my vote elsewhere (McCain).
IM VOTING AGAINST CLINTON AND HER POLITICS OF FEAR AND SUPPRESSION. I'M VOTING FOR OBAMA.
Two political families controlling the White House for more than twenty years is flat out wrong.
There is this feeling I get that many people are voting for Hillary because of name recognition and gender.
Are these or are these not superficial reasons to vote for someone? If not, what major legislation has Hillary passed? Is she a uniter for our country? Does she want more transparency in government? Does she take lobbyist money? Answers:Yes, None, No, No, and Yes
Am I the only one who remembers that early in this campaign, before Iowa even, HRC was "staying above the fray" and not taking any shots at her competitors. She was accused by some of being arrogant and taking her lead in the polls for granted/believing she was inevitable. BO was swooning in the polls and was being urged by the pundits on Cable News to come out swinging or see his candidacy collapse. And, politics as usual, he took that advice and vowed to come out swinging in the next debate scheduled with MSNBC. And he did. And he landed punches particularly dismissing Clinton experience of the White House years (afterall she was just the wife). So did all those other Democratic candidates. As Clinton responded, as her campaign responded she was accused of playing "the cards"; the feminist card, the race card, the fear card. In other words it seems that HRC can be attacked ad nauseam but she is not permitted to swing back without having her punches "characterized" as some Rovian tactic rather than responded to in a straight line. An example of this is in the Nevada debate when BO characterized HRC's example of the British PM experience "terrorist testing" after his election---BO characterized this as playing the fear card---what he could have done was talk about how he has thought about and would respond or give evidence why he thinks that is not going to happen in the US. What did the media pick up on? Playing the fear card, not on BO ducking the issue. Jangles
Just say NO: No to the baggage, scandal, and shame that a Billary presidency would bring back to the White House.
Bet on this: if Shrillary is the nominee, there will be another Republican in the White House--her name on the ballot will galvanize GOP voters and ensure a large number of Independents and Democrats will vote GOP.
Have you seen any Republicans for Hillary groups that have formed since she announced? Didn't think so. What's the percentage of Independents that have or will vote for her, slim to zero?
Yes, Shrillary all the way--BACK TO NEW YORK, the state she calculated moving to just to run for Senate. Billary, why didn't you return back to your "home" state of Arkansas?? It's all politics baby, Shrillary has been planning this campaign for years, way before her debate answer of December 2006. Riiiiiigggghhhttttt. They can't even be truthful to themselves and they want us to believe the drivel that comes out of their mouths? Thanks but no thanks!
