WASHINGTON -- If you couldn’t find Republican Sen. John Ensign in the crowd for the president’s joint address to Congress this week, you’re not alone.
Ensign missed the live event under the dome, opting instead to watch from home because, his spokeswoman said, he was fighting a cold.
Observers noticed the chamber looked a little emptier than usual for a presidential address as several lawmakers decided to sit it out. But what the Republican side lacked in quantity if more than made up for in the voluble heckling.

I guess John-John is working on his own health care bill. Under the Ensign Plan, we would all have rich Mommy's and Daddy's to pay our bills.
Well, by God, he is back working for the people!
I for one say BULLY for you, Senator! Will I see you on the Love Boat Cruise with the Insurance Industry folk tonight, or are you still "down with a cold"?
He better go to the "clinic" and have himself checked out. Who knows what kind of "bug" he might have picked up.
Maybe Enswigne has the Swine Flu?
So disrespectful!
I wouldn't attend a Kenyan Marxist's speech either, Senator Ensign. Good action on your part.
...or maybe he did have a cold? I'm tired of people showing up where I work coughing, sniffling, and sneezing. Stay home if you're sick.
mandingo: you need some serious decompression. How deep were your dives and how long did you stay down?
Ensign should resign and allow the governor to do something useful like appointing Dean Heller to fill out the term.
Most likely either Viagra overdose or withdrawl. Your pick...
Purely an exercise of common sense, a quality that his leftwinger pinko detractors do not have, i.e., the infusion of tax increases and bureaucracy growth.
Republicans run Nevada but they can't seem
to come up with solutions that the State needs.
Why they keep getting electted shows what a good
political machine they have. Scare tactics, fear,
and intimidation, only right wing radio and an unresponsive public are tactics that work. What we need are answers not yawns.
Senator John Ensign, Get well soon and then fulfill your pledge to Paul Rupp that you have not honored as of 9/14/2009. Mr Ensign, when you respond in writing acknowledging that you and your office (staff) will look into safety violations and a cover-up by MSHA Boulder NV, office (Tim Fisher), then by all means Mr Ensign. . . it is time to work hard for all Nevadans, that includes Paul Rupp Box 125 Silver Peak, NV 89047, thats right time too get busy, SO GET WELL ASAP AND GET TO IT!
Maybe Rush Limpbough has something in his medicine chest that will fix what Johnny has.
Look at the TV ratings for that speech. Most of the nation also skipped it.
