Where’s Gibbons? In the meantime, Sen. Schneider in charge

Gov. Jim Gibbons is out of state, as is Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki. That means gubernatorial authority rests in the hands of Sen. Mike Schneider, D-Las Vegas, reports the Reno Gazette-Journal's Anjeanette Damon.

She lays out some interesting possibilities: Schneider was told by legal counsel he could sign bills, including the room tax increase that Gibbons is letting pass into law without his signature.

Alas, she reports that Schneider is in no mood for mischief. Gibbons' Chief of Staff Josh Hicks said Gibbons is in California on personal business.

  1. Gibbons, do us all a favor and stay in California. Personal business? What's her name?

  2. Hey, Mike! This is a real good chance for you to repent and leave "the dark-side" of Nevada politics! Sign the bill and do all you can to help Nevadans - then, abdicate forever from the nearly defunct Nevada Republican Party - the Democratic tent is big enough for you TOO!

  3. That's a joke folks - Schneider is a Democrat!

  4. While Gibbons is away, the Legislature should pass a bill (1) allowing local governments to spend money to finance homeowner and business solar power and wind projects and (2) requiring Nevada Power (or whatever it calls itself now) to buy the locally generated power at about 4 to 5 times the rate it pays for coal-fired power. That way, when summer rolls around we can afford to run air conditioning -- and we cut down Carbon emissions.

  5. Do us all a favor Gibbons and stay in California. Tick-tock, tick-tock.
