Sun columnist Jon Ralston is reporting that former state Sen. Joe Heck will enter the race for governor.
That could pit Heck against Gov. Jim Gibbons and North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon in the Republican primary.
Ralston reports that although there has been chatter that Heck would run, he didn't make up his mind to do so until recently.

I hope this isn't true. Joe Heck is another form of Gibbons: self-aggrandaisement deluxe.
It's true. And, you'll hear directly from Joe Heck when he appears on Face to Face this Tuesday, March 17.
Aw heck.
Well, at least the Republicans now have a gubernatorial candidate - I guess?
It's too bad they don't even have the ability to keep the Las Vegas Republican Party HQ's open (when the space was being provided rent-free)!
Poor, Republican, (Former) State Senator, Colonel, Doctor Joe Heck is going to have one of the toughest campaigns for any Republican ever in Nevada!
I'd send Joe a case of military MRE's (but, I'm just not going to feed the other side)! Besides, now, we desperately need the food donations for the increasing number of Homeless Vets that Heck helped create by backing Bush and the Unjust War in Iraq!
Here's a real good idea Joe, instead of running for Governor, why not start volunteering your medical skills to help take care of some of the wounded you unnecessarily caused?
I am a Democrat yeas I am but eh present GOV is not even a Republican and lets say not even a Democrat.
He's being himself. So you Republicans, would you all please put a "Real"Republican up for a vote.
Thank you.
Joe Heck thinks he's the best man for the job? Well, gee, Rory Reid thinks that too! I'm of the mind that the best "man" for the job is actually a WOMAN, you know as in "wom(b)an" - and her name is Barbara Buckley!
With all due respect to (former) State Senator, Colonel, Doctor Joe Heck - isn't your plate already to full? Don't you have some wounded soldiers you created that need your medical skills? Why don't you set your petty, personal political ambitions aside until you finish the unnecessary war you supported?
With all due respect to the Chair of the Clark County Commission, Rory Reid - you're doing a great job running those meetings (and we need someone to keep Tom Collins from going out of control) - so, why not just stick with what you know and you're pretty good at? PLEASE? PRETTY PLEASE?
Otherwise, go ahead and do the macho things boys and men do Joe and Rory - the well informed, well educated, registered voters and advocate and activists of Nevada have our eyes on the little lady that's been a class act, consumate professional and "walking-the-talk" by fighting effectively for us for a long, long time now!
I mean, really, come on guys - do you honestly think you are better prepared than the Nevada Assembly Speaker? Be honest fellas, there's no rational or logical way you can honestly say that you have anywhere near the experience or prepardness! Come on, you can do, just stand in front of a mirror and look the guy in the glass straight in the eyes and ask the right question and be totally honest - O.K.?
It's also O.K. if you start breaking out laughing at yourself - that will be good training for the campaign trail! And, hey, you can avoid the embarrassement by withdrawing, you know, "for family reason" and we'll save the taxpayers and voters a lot of unnecessary hassle!
NOTE To Rory Reid: You know I love ya brother - but, come on, this is not personal and we don't need more dynasties in Nevada - just like I told you to your face!
NOTE To Joe Heck: Loved working with good Doctors like you Joe, but let's be real, you're he elite of the Army Medical Corp (and the only officers that have a sweeter deal than Doctors are the Attorneys in the JAG Corps) and none of you are really soldiers - let alone combat soldiers! So, watch how you play the hero card or I'll have to give you a little spanky if you go Rambo on us! Oh, and "Thank YOU Joe for YOUR service and sacrifice (in the totally unnecessary and Unjust War in Iraq)!
