Poll: Reid vs. Porter

WASHINGTON -- New poll numbers out today on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s re-election chances, and they’re not so hot.

The poll by Research 2000 over the last several days for the liberal Web site Daily Kos pits Reid against the recently ousted Republican Rep. Jon Porter in 2010.

Here are the numbers, if the matchup were today: Reid 46, Porter 40 (with a 4 percentage point plus/minus margin of error).

As Kos and others note, it gets worse for Reid in the details.

Porter – who just got kicked out of office – has a higher favorable opinion rating among those polled (40) than Reid (38).

Kos notes Reid’s favorable is at 31 among independents – so vital in Nevada even with the new Democratic majority among registered voters.

Those who want to replace the Nevada senator – 41 percent. Those who would consider replacing him – 23 percent. Those who want to re-elect him – 32 percent.

Even among Deomocrats, Kos notes, fewer than half are rooting for the man.

Team Reid has its work cut out for it in 2010.

  1. Anybody that runs against Reid will get indicted by his Democratic pals or have a mailer ran against them that says they are for cancer or an ad that they say they want children to die or have bill boards that say they accept money from porn kings.

Reid is running the Democratic machine in Nevada and he has decided to use every trick in the book to defeat his enemies. He has even come up some new ones.

If Republicans want to have a chance in this state then they must be ready to fight a black flag...take-no-prisoners...all-out-war with this guy.

  2. It can't be easy for Harry Reid when you consider that you have the largest local daily alleged newspaper using its front page to smear him whenever possible, and people like Nance who seem to think that Fox News and the R-J actually are journalistic enterprises. Thankfully, Reid has two years to remind Nevadans of why they--we--need to keep him in office.

  3. Thank goodness we have at least two fair and balanced media outlets who understand that Reid no longer represents Nevada. He now represents the radical left that has taken over our national government. But Nevada has a chance to change the dynamics in the Senate in two years by ousting this socialist and returning to office a good man in the name of Jon Porter.

  4. Here I am needing a good laugh, and MichaelGreen provides it.

I guess you think the Sun is a journalistic enterprise and not just a forum for liberals? Every editorial, article, and letter are written by and for libs.

  5. Scott, you might guess wrong. I happen to think someone who is well informed reads and listens to a variety of viewpoints--not just the ones s/he agrees with. By doing so, I know that the Sun is not liberal because I read publications that really are liberal, and the R-J and the often mispronounced Fox News, Dave, are not fair and balanced. I don't happen to think any publication or network is fair and balanced. But I know better than to claim that propagandists like the people at Fox News and the R-J are fair and balanced. Happy Thanksgiving, and be thankful for a First Amendment that enables you to make such ridiculous statements as "the radical left that has taken over our government" without fear of retribution from those who know better.

  6. I totally agree with Michael. My news comes from many sources, none of which include hate radio or Fox Snooze. The Sun, IMHO, is neither radical nor left. The Sun is a news organization, period.

I love the way the right likes to use codephrases as if they actually mean something. Radical left, activist judges, gay agenda, smear merchants, etc... are all used frequently to make sure the lemmings know who and what to fear.

    Happy Thanksgiving Patriots. Lemmings too!

P.S. Okay nance, you can tell everybody what I actually said now.

  7. Are you being obsessive about me?

You should focus on other stuff.

I have enough fans as it is.

  8. "I have enough fans as it is."

Walmart greeters do that for everyone nance.

  9. Peanut Gallery: Porter can't beat Reid but Heller might.

  10. both candidates are out of touch - we need some new meat in 2010. speaking of meat, about time to go dive into some turkey and giblets
Thanks for the conversations - Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

  11. Harry Reid presided over an ineffective senate made ineffective by Bush puppets in the GOP. It's wasn't his fault that America is still getting shafted by 10 billion a month in an illegal war that should have closed up shop once Saddam was toppled. Look to the GOP military industrial puppets like John Ensign and Porter to pin the tail on here.

  12. Happy Thanksgiving - certainly hope this isn't another case like Ashcroft who got beat by a candidate who had died in a Senate race in Missouri and then was appoint Attorney General by good old double U. Ok, keep up the bad work - it is fun to read these hot comments.

  13. I could never vote for Porter. He has done nothing substantial for this state. Please review the debates with Dina Titus. It's Harry Reid. He understands the needs of Nevada, and he will be a phone call away from the President.

  14. Clearly Boss Reid lives in his penthouse bubble quite oblivious to the realities we schmucks out here in the real world must face every day.

In an interview with the RGJ last week he was asked "What do you consider major accomplishments in the 110th Congress as it relates to Nevada?" http://www.rgj.com/article/20081124/NEWS...

Answer: $165 million for Nevada - $160 million of which was for the military!

Perhaps the old man forgot the $45 million he got for a mag-lev train to Disneyland which was needed soooo badly....

  15. He is toooooo busy fighting battles for the DailyKos and MoveOn.org folk.

Nevada is ranked fairly low on his list.

  16. So many on the right are having a hard time realizing that the republicans lost the last two elections. In fact, I believe they will lose even more seats in the House and Senate in 2010. Perhaps it's too early to call for the undertaker, but the patient (the republican party) is very, very sick.

So, continue to be bitter; continue to be negative; and continue to uphold the policies and politics of George Bush and the short-sighted republican party ... it will make the reelection of Harry Reid much easier.

And, clearly, Harry Reid has done more for Nevada than any other national politician in many generations.

  17. When Harry Reid declared the "WAR LOST IN IRAQ" in the middle of the fight...I saw a man who was a traitor for power...A man who (regardless of standpoint on the war) was willing to sacrifice American men and women to hold his power and expand it. There is not a man higher on my list of despicable corrupt, self indulgent political pigs/

  18. Oh, also Merry Christmas - may we enjoy peace and joy in the land!

  19. I think John and Michael get their news from 'the view'. You guy are light-weight, cool aid drinkers.

  20. "You guy are light-weight, cool aid drinkers."

Gee, that's deep. Never heard those comments before. And thanks for backing up your opinions with substantive arguments.

BTW, it's "Kool Aid". If you are going to be condescending, it helps to show that you are actually superior somehow.

  21. Nevada is in the cat-bird seat as long as Harry Reid is the Majority Leader. Anyone who doesn't understand that is an ostrich with its head in the sand. Reid has done and is doing good things for Nevada...blocking nuclear waste, opening the door to solar, asking the governor (who can't think once) to think twice about coal plants, opening the door for solar, saving the military at Hawthorne, preserving Tahoe, and on and on. Porter and Heller have done zip for Nevada while their propogandists churn out political garbage about their non-existant accomplishments. Porter got his just reward by a wise electorate on Nov. 4 and Heller will get his in two more years. Only because of Harry does the nation finally realize that Nevada exists -- and eventually the pundits at Fox might even learn to pronounce the state correctly. But they are a bit slow.

  22. Does anyone know how many faces Reid has, I think he should run for Prime Minister in India.
