State Sen. Dina Titus plans to make it official today. The Las Vegas Democrat plans to file for the 3rd District congressional race at 9 a.m. at the Clark County Government Center.

Titus plans to keep up a tradition today — when she first filed for state Senate in 1988, Sen. Bob Coffin paid her filing fee to encourage her to run. Coffin planned to be their today to shell out the $300 filing fee for Congress, according to party officials.

Titus will face the Republican incumbent, U.S. Rep. John Porter, in a campaign that is expected to be one of the most competitive races in the country.

Both parties have targeted the district, which includes Las Vegas and Clark County.
