Reid on brink of announcing his presidential pick

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who has stayed painstakingly neutral in the presidential race, is holding on just a little longer.

Reid told reporters today that as the primary season comes to a close this week he will do what he has encouraged all super-delegates to do: name a presidential pick.

“I will set an example for the rest of the Senate like I try to do with everything,” Reid said.

But he will not act a moment earlier.

And he urged all super-delegates to let the process finish out.

“I want everyone ... (to) keep their decisions in their pocket till after the primaries are over,” Reid said.

News reports have swirled all day that Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York would announce tonight that fellow Democratic contender, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, has enough delegates to earn the nomination. Clinton has reportedly denied that is her intention.

“Senator Clinton needs to be left alone,” Reid said. “Let's get through the primary process and let this week work its course.”
