WASHINGTON -- As the economic scare deepens, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says a stimulus package should be approved in weeks.
Reid went to the White House this afternoon to meet with President Bush (what do those two think when they’re sitting across the table from each other?). Congressional leaders from both parties also were there.
Reid said this morning that relief should be passed before senators take their next break, now scheduled for mid-February. His comments echo the House majority leader’s assertion last week that an agreement could be reached in 30 days – though he cautioned he wasn’t sure it would be.
I wrote recently that economists say timeliness is key to the success of any stimulus package. Some say it may already be too late.
