WASHINGTON — On the heels of yesterday’s endorsement by another Democratic senator choosing sides among friends, we thought it might be helpful to review the terrain Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid must maneuver as he tries to lead the Senate this presidential election year.
So far, 17 of Reid’s 51-member caucus have endorsed, according to the score being kept by The Hill.
The tally at this point: 10 senators for Clinton and seven for Obama, including Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, the judiciary committee chairman, who announced his support yesterday. (John Edwards has not received any endorsements from his former Senate colleagues.)
Reid has tried to remain neutral in the race, so as not to show favorites among his senators. He will caucus on Saturday "uncommitted."
But don’t forget Reid’s top lieutenants in Senate leadership are also split into opposing camps. Both back their fellow home-state senators: Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin, the Democratic Whip, is with Obama while New York Sen. Charles Schumer, the No. 3 Dem in the Senate, is a Clinton supporter.
Pressure will only continue to mount on senators to endorse as the race continues. One of Reid's strengths last year was his ability to keep his diverse caucus united in the Senate, potentially a tougher job as the nominating process continues.

To quote Bubba- "Give me a Break!"
Weak Reid's son is Clinton's manager and the Hairless Wonder went to far as to do a surprise scheduling of the Iran vote on a morning when Obama was in New Hampshire so he couldn't vote on it.
Off Topic ... hats off to the Sun's Early Line staff and Buffalo Jon for a great forum. The staff interaction over the intimidation issue was engaging the public ... Once again, the R-J sucks ... thank you!
I assume Nevada, like Iowa, has a 15% threshhold for their caucuses in order for candidates to earn delegates.
If that is the case, Reid's intention to vote "uncommitted" might not be viable. (very few precincts in Iowa selected uncommitted delegates). I urge the media to be at his caucus site and observe who his second choice is.
The eyes of America are on Nevada Saturday!Do us proud please get out to the caucus and vote for The First Woman President of the United States!!
Everyone in this big country enjoys coming to Las Vegas so you can give us a BIG thank you by showing the World we will have new Leadership that is WELL qualified to step in and turn this mess around.
