Democrat Derby espied in Washington

WASHINGTON -- Democratic congressional hopeful Jill Derby was spotted in the halls today in Washington, one week after she announced her rematch against Republican Rep. Dean Heller in Nevada’s 2nd district.

Derby was in town for a two-day campaign strategy session hosted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is trying elect Democrats to the House.

The committee is targeting as many as 50 Republicans in the fall election. Candidates learned about the latest field strategies as well as rapid response techniques for political attacks from 527s (outside groups), a source said.

No word yet on who else she met with -- though she did not call on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Derby, who recently stepped down as state party chairwoman, lost to Heller in 2006.
