WASHINGTON — Gov. Jim Gibbons has been spending the last several days here in Washington as part of the National Governors’ Association annual meeting.
Gibbons arrived Saturday and dined Sunday evening with President Bush (and 49 or so other governors). (Menu: wild asparagus broth, Hudson River duck, whipped sweet potatoes, French beans, roasted hearts of palm salad, warm caramel-orange torte and walnut ice cream.)
Gibbons attended work sessions on clean energy, the environment and defense. He met with Interior Department Secretary Dick Kempthorne and Homeland Security Department Secretary Michael Chertoff.
Today he stopped in to talk with most of Nevada’s lawmakers — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republicans Sen. John Ensign, Rep. Jon Porter and Rep. Dean Heller. He did not meet with Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley.
His mission, spokeswoman Melissa Subbotin said, was to “discuss Nevada’s transportation needs and the development of Nevada’s abundant renewable energy resources.”
He returns to Nevada on Wednesday.
