WASHINGTON — Republican Rep. Jon Porter is planning his fifth trip to Iraq.
The Nevada congressman said he is trying to schedule a congressional trip sometime after the first of the year, likely within the first three months of 2008.
Porter draws heavily on his Iraq trips as he makes the case for his position on the war. After past visits, he has returned optimistic about the success on the ground, and has continued to support the Bush administration’s war policy. My Sun colleague Michael Mishak wrote this story after Porter’s last trip in August.
Porter’s trip next year may coincide with a renewed battle between Congress and the White House over war funds.
