WASHINGTON — Yucca Mountain news keeps coming this week.
The White House announced late Tuesday it was nominating Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's former nuclear energy advisor for another term on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Gregory B. Jaczko was first appointed to the commission for a partial term that expires next year. If confirmed by the Senate he will serve until 2013.
The commission will decide over the next several years whether to approve plans for the nuclear waste dump outside of Las Vegas.
Last month, Reid employed a procedural move to keep the Senate in session over the Thanksgiving break to prevent Bush from unilaterally making more than 100 recess appointments, including filling a Republican vacancy on the commission without also moving Reid's Democratic choice. Here's my story on that.
Jaczko's nomination didn't end that stand off, though. No deal has been reached between the White House and Congress to move the other nominees forward.
