In his latest attack ad, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid accuses Republican rival Sharron Angle of calling the BP victims relief fund a “slush fund.” He also says she wants to eliminate the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency.
We put his claims through the Truth Test.

And yet, after all the name calling and demonizing from Harry Reid, Sharron Angle is still running neck to neck with the venerable Harry Reid...
At least she's not a communist like Reid and Obama.
Fact: harry Reid has led the Senate during the worst economic downturn in history.
Fact: harry Reid did nothing to reign in Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before or after the fall. These government agencies are still making and buying bad loans we will have to pay for.
Fact: harry Reid has led the Senate during the largest expansion of government intrusion in our nations history.
Fact: Nevada and America need anyone but harry in the Senate.
Prove your facts
Fact: The teabaggers have no clue what they're talking about.
Fact: After enduring the total economic freefall of the closing months of the Bush-Cheney era, the GDP is growing and jobs are being created in the private sector.
Fact: Harry Reid just achieved the passage of the most comprehensive financial regulatory reform since The Great Depression, reining in Wall Street abuses... Sharron Angle would have opposed it, since she's endorsed by the very "tea party" groups backed by big business.
I think the real facts speak for themselves.
"Anyone but Harry" is the battle cry of the good citizens of Nevada...
So didn't Harry learn from the tragedy of pressuring banks to loan to unqualified buyers that ended up in the Mortgage Crises? If so, then he wouldn't be so proud as to publish in his campaign ads that he pressured banks to loan to commercial projects. Projects which very clearly benefiting his backers, his campaign contribuitors. And who were his backers? MGM partnering 50/50 with an Arab enterprise for one. Another backer was the Labor Union.
Now why would Harry be proud enough of this to use it campaigning? I mean most Americans are against the concept of powerful people or political Chicago style 'machines' doing dirty back room deals. Most Americans object to "crony capitalism" and link it to fat old sheriffs letting the cattle baron burn out the widows and the pilgrims. Why no shame in Harry's camp for what amounts to stealing the trade going to Mom and Pop hospitality business in Vegas which resulted from funneling that tourism towards the big shiny Mega Gangster Mosque (you heard that here first) that Union Labor seems so happy to raise up in our midst?
He's got no shame! He's the sheriff, he can flash his badge at the loan officer, with a wink at every other legitimate 'rancher' waiting for an equity seed money, then saunter over to the saloon to give the Arab Baron and his big-bellied boss foreman the good news. Then as he polishes his badge in the town square he'll brush off the anguished commoners with a "You may not be smart enough to run your own spread, but hey, you can thank me for getting help for the Baron in time. You can work for him, maybe he'll buy your spread, hell, maybe I will."
So Harry's gotten blinded enough to brag about it. But here's the important question.
Why are we so blind as to not to be outraged by it?
Try bringing it up. Anywhere. On any forum. See how fast the subject gets changed. What's the psychology of this blindness? That this kind of thing can't happen, it's the 21st century and we're better than that now?
People, please stop. Pull back from whatever your current distraction is and look. It might be fuzzy to begin with, but give it a minute. Let the question form, "Why is Harry Reid shameless?
And in the same way, show me a Sheriff who can say, "Look at this accident you've caused, it's caused our community $20 billion in losses, and I'm going to shut down the businesses here to make sure it doesn't happen again. What? What'd I say?"
Why no outrage when The Sheriff decrees his own fine, not the fine approved by courts, but his arbitrary fine? Why no outcry when, by shutting down the business district, The Sheriff does ten times more damage than the original accident?
Will Democrats ever stop blaming Bush, frothing at the mouth and accusing Bush of ruining the economy? The President of the United States cannot spend ONE DIME without congressional authorization. The bail outs, the supposed "Bush Tax Cuts" were passed by a Democratic houses. The core difference between a liberal and a conservative (putting aside hot button social issues such as gay marriage and abortion) is whether you stimulate the economy by cutting taxes so private industries can hire, thereby creating jobs and wealth, or do you raise taxes and attempt to stimulate the economy with social programs and government intervention. History has shown the latter does not work, the former does.
During the six most prosperous years of the Clinton administration (after he was neutered when Republicans took control of both houses in 04) the Republicans reigned in spending, cut taxes, and America prospered. Clinton was a brilliant president, but he did not control America's purse strings, nor did he adequately address the threat posed by Islamic extremists when they bombed the WTC in 93, the USS Cole, or two U.S. embassies in Africa. He did, however, cooperate with the Republicans to the point that the economy flourished. He knew he had to go to the center.
No president in recent history has had the challenges of George W. Bush--9/11, Katrina, Iraq, the meltdown of the quasi-legal housing bubble (which had its seeds in Clinton strong-arming banks into loaning to unqualified minorities), North Korea, Iran, gas prices, Chavez . . . yet Bush could have proposed canonizing Mother Theresa and Dems still would have frothed at the mouth and spewed forth their hatred. Bush proposed what I considered to be a realistic and fair immigration bill--but he could do nothing right in the public's eye.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Tax and spend, coming from a Republican or a Democrat, simply does not work. Tax cuts, coming from a Republican or a Democrat, do work. I own a law firm and have 7 employees besides the attorneys. In 09, I paid 104K in taxes. If I could have even a 30% reduction I could have hired another receptionist, paid hm/her 30K, and she would have spent that money at grocery stores, gas stations, and other places, thereby actually stimulating the economy.
I'd vote for anyone on the ballot running against socialist Harry Reid. There was a town in California a few years back that voted in a dog as mayor. I'd vote for the dog if it were opposite Dirty Harry on the ballot.
VictimofMetro. A lawyer and business owner huh?
You need to fire your tax accountant, hire a critical thinking coach and redo 7th grade civics.
So the dittoheads and Hannitized Beckbrains have gone from "Reid is in trouble" "Reid's numbers a bad" blah blah...now it's "Well after all the name calling ...Reid is neck and neck
7 points ahead? giraffe neck?
These Angle threads are hilarious.
Needs more injins with cowboy stories though.
Good Drugs on this one: "Fact: Harry Reid just achieved the passage of the most comprehensive financial regulatory reform since The Great Depression"
You need to stop listening to the Obama Media and start looking at what they have hidden behind the curtain. their words and their actions are two different things.
The regulatory reform you praise dirty harry for shoving down the throats of the financial people does nothing to curb in bad legislation that force the banks to loan based on ethnic and low income status.
Nor does it do anything but help the big wall street firms become bigger and the little banks get hit with more taxes, fees and paperwork that will be passed onto the small business person trying to start a business, but gets stopped by all the new Obamacare taxes, fees and 'incentives".
So more taxes are added to your banking fees while they are forced to loan to people who will never be able to pay it back. Thus creating the cycle Dirty Harry helped start with fannie mae.
Than you, the tax payer will get stuck with bailouts again and more jobs being shed in order to pay for the new borrowing to help pay for the new unemployed people caused by all the jobs going over seas in order to avoid the new fees, taxes and other costs associated with the new financial reform laws that do nothing
Harry Reid does not care about nothing but a vote, illegal alien, Mickey Mouse, big bird, whoever he can get on from he's okay with that. No matter how bad Jon Rolston try to make Sharron Angle look, I think that he is waking people up to the fact that Harry Reid's clearly got him under his thumb. Go Sharron, we will kick dirty Harry out come November. People are sick of Reid's agenda.
I see you've got your shuck-n-jive mask on again pmontg.

Where did the concept "The Rule of Law" come from? And isn't the the rule of 'law' a leap forward, a prime contributor to the blessings of Western Civilization? We are not tribal warlords now, conquering by violence to dominate the weaker. We have risen from that, having accepted the rule of law instead.
What is our earliest, though it may be flawed, law? That's right. Judeo-Christian law. From the Bible. Starting with, but, and this is an important distinction, evolving from the old tribal style of law found in the Old Testament. Where are we now because of it?
Now if you look at the Old Testament, and seeking flaws you then find them, are you really justified to throw out that body of thought that has shaped our progress, refined our culture, and given us our freedom?
Do you find any other culture whose formative and primitive tribal laws have served them so well as ours have?
Or are you, like the professor you quote, merely assigning us to suffer the New Age with a New Law the Unknown Law of the New Ruling Class?
Let's say we're at cards playing under the rule of law a new and profitable game called Free Market Judeo-Christian Constitutional Congressional Democracy.
If that's the game we're still playing, then the hand you are holding is not a winning hand. The rest of us at the table see the Bible and know it is an Ace, a high card. We also feel blessed to have a Constitution in hand, though you may be quick to discard it. We also like the Military Card and tend to keep it, because in our game it pairs up well with our high cards. But we look across at you holding this strange deck missing so many values, why, you've culled your deck of high cards and it seems that you'll only win by cheating.
Or by pulling a gun and walking away with our winnings.
Your professor is critical of the Bible and of anyone who uses it in forming an opinion. But his flaw, a logical flaw, is this.
Every field of science has arisen, every army that prevails, every good thing that survives to be prized, will be seen at first, like coal not yet diamond, to be flawed and undesirable.
Tell your professor not to toss this diamond, this high card, this God of our Fathers, this Constitution.
It's a diamond now, whatever it used to be.
Will all debt be forgiven every seven years, Sharron??? Are we to treat our slaves good as the Old Testament states???? Hope you get elected and take us back to the Old Testament times.
BEHOLD!!! I give you a NEW COMMANDMENT: YOU are to LOVE one another as I have LOVED.
Ed,
See the diamond. And don't forget the Queen of hearts in this hand, the Jack won't win, he's got clubs but she's hanging on to Kings.
Something just plain wrong with putting the word "truth" in the same sentence with "Reid."
Is Angle for phasing out Social Security this week? or has the "truth teller" changed her mind?
If the "Reid" name carries any clout or success behind it, "Rory" wouldn't be campaining without it. I'd vote for a dog too instead of good old Harry.
@bringer
You said, among other things:
"What is our earliest, though it may be flawed, law? That's right. Judeo-Christian law. From the Bible. Starting with, but, and this is an important distinction, evolving from the old tribal style of law found in the Old Testament. Where are we now because of it?"
Then you kept going from their. Trouble is since you were wrong... well, let's just say you should do your homework before preaching to others.
http://library.thinkquest.org/C004203/po...
My dog would beat Rory this November.
Harry is fighting for his life. So many see how poorly he's done for Nevada that most likely, he'll lose too.
To the blame Bush crowd do you realize that Bush never wrote one law, never came up with one budget, not once during his eight years.
The democrats, led by Harry, did all this and since 2006 Reid and company controlled the senate.
Somebody tell me was Dirty Harry the president or something..he gets blamed for everything that happened the past 8 years before Obama..I thought Bush was president then..am i wrong?
Hey, It will be so nice when the GOP takes over in 2011. That way they can continue ruining the American economy.
Their Job Program: Ship them over seas, or have a bubble Real Estate economy.
We need to jump start the Construction Industry.
Oh, What is that you say? "We have too many empty house and strip malls.
"Hey let us open a Wal-Mart on every corner."
Oh, You say nobody can make enough money to shop at those discounters, because nobody is working. Well, "Let us start a war in Asia!" Young People are tired of War.
The GOP has outdated and outmoded Arguments. That is why they will be rejected by American voters.
Hey, they may gain the House or the Senate, but when people realize that they only are concerned about the Wealthy and Large Corporations, they will lose.
If the GOP wins, then the USA loses!
Sorry if it doesn't support your revision of history and destroys your narrative, but it is no less true. Yet another defection from a Republican Senator (Jim Jeffords) put the gavel in the hands of Tom Daschle on June 6, 2001. Here's the breakdown:
* January 3, 2001: Senate was evenly split, 50-50, between two parties.
* January 20, 2001: George W. Bush and Dick Cheney were sworn-in as President of the United States and Vice President of the United States, respectively, giving the Republicans a narrow majority in the Senate with Cheney's tie-breaking power.
* June 6, 2001: Senator Jim Jeffords, previously a Republican, declared himself an independent and announced he would vote with the Democrats, giving Democrats control in the Senate with a one-seat advantage. Democrat Tom Daschle became Senate Majority Leader.
* September 11, 2001: September 11 attacks
* September 20, 2001: George W. Bush reported to a joint session of Congress on the investigation into the September 11 attacks and officially announces the War on Terrorism
* October 7, 2001: Operation Enduring Freedom began
* October 9, 2001: Anthrax attacks were executed against members of the Senate, including Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle.
So.....Ummmm......No. Bush Tax Cuts were passed by a Democrat Senate. This was intended to bring a lagging economy out of the recession of the DotCom Crash.
Other major legislation enacted with Democrat control, includes war with Iraq as outlined here:
* June 7, 2001: Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act, Pub.L. 107-16, 115 Stat. 38
THIS IS THE TAX CUTS ENACTED UNDER TOM DASCHLE'S GAVEL
* October 26, 2001: Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism ("USA PATRIOT") Act, Pub.L. 107-56, 115 Stat. 272
* January 8, 2002: No Child Left Behind Act, Pub.L. 107-110, 115 Stat. 1425
* January 11, 2002: Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act, Pub.L. 107-118, 115 Stat. 2356
* March 9, 2002: Job Creation and Worker Assistance Act, Pub.L. 107-147, 116 Stat. 21
* March 27, 2002: Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (McCain-Feingold), Pub.L. 107-155, 116 Stat. 81
* May 13, 2002: Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002, Pub.L. 107-171, 116 Stat. 134
* July 30, 2002: Sarbanes-Oxley Act, Pub.L. 107-204, 116 Stat. 745
* August 6, 2002: Trade Act of 2002, Pub.L. 107-210, 116 Stat. 933
* October 16, 2002: Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq, Pub.L. 107-243, 116 Stat. 1497
* October 21, 2002: Sudan Peace Act, Pub.L. 107-245, 116 Stat. 1504
* October 29, 2002: Help America Vote Act, Pub.L. 107-252, 116 Stat. 1666
* November 25, 2002: Homeland Security Act, Pub.L. 107-296, 116 Stat. 2135
While I am not a 100 percent Harry fan, I just can't get onboard the Angle crazy train. Anyway, I can't wait for her next hard hitting Hannity interview when she reveals what she eats for breakfast!!
VictimofMetro
You just successfully rewrote history for the past 50 years with your post. Do you work on the school board in Texas?
@thevegastourist
"The regulatory reform you praise dirty harry for shoving down the throats of the financial people does nothing to curb in bad legislation that force the banks to loan based on ethnic and low income status."
--So are you saying there should be laws against loaning money to people based on ethnic status? I bet you believe we are in a "Post-Racial America" too?
Celeritas you said "I see you've got your shuck-n-jive mask on again pmontg.
I take it that you like Harry, and what he has done for illegal aliens, by the way what is a n-jive mask? Just because I'm black don't men I know slang. anyway if that n-jive mask will help Harry Reid get voted out of office I'll take it.
Q. What's your take on illegals?
I would vote for Scoobie Doo before I would vote for Reid.
Yep, my dog cares and listens more than "Harry". I vote dog.
Four words: None of the above.
The headline makes it sound like Sen. Reid is lying about what Ms. Angle said when it proves she indeed said these things then flip-flopped when she got called on her statements. But she didn't flip-flop... she "softened her stance".
OMG that some of the people here are planning on voting for Reid????
Are you insane????
Help this country out and get rid of this scum bag please.
And the authors point is?
