Labor Day guide to Las Vegas

Memorial Day is a distant memory and it’s not quite time for Halloween. That doesn’t mean it’s not time to party like a rockstar. As usual, Las Vegas is pulling out all the stops for a Labor Day Weekend chock full of concerts, DJs, barbecues and pool parties not soon to be forgotten.

The nightclubs and pools are bringing in the big guns like Miguel Migs, Boris, Sharam and Eric Morillo. Fabulous Fest will descend upon the Palms bringing the best dance DJs under one roof. Jeffery Sanker will be back in town with his infamous White Party.

You can see classic acts like Air Supply and Bob Weir and Ratdog or go modern with Secondhand Serenade and Solarcade. The biggest local bands like Imagine Dragons, Slow to Surface and Solidify will also be performing this weekend. Bill Cosby’s even getting in on the action with a special night at Treasure Island. Whether you want comedy, music, big name DJs or just a delicious barbecue, Labor Day Weekend has what you are looking for.

Wednesday, Sept. 2:

Bob Weir and RatDog at The House of Blues: Bob Weir, of Grateful Dead fame, will be performing live at The House of Blues at Mandalay Bay along with RatDog. The lineup has been a revolving door for Grateful Dead members as well as a who's who of rock and jam band stars. The current lineup features Jay Lane, Jeff Chimenti, Mark Karan, Kenny Brooks and Robin Sylvester.

Human Rooster Fighting at Mischieve Wednesdays at T&T: Mischieve Wednesdays at T&T includes drink specials like $5 house margaritas, $5 Hornitos shots and $5 Tecaté while resident DJ Ernan spins an eclectic mix of rock 'n' roll, Latin and house beats. Now they've added an element to keep the party crazy: human rooster fighting! Party-goers can go head to head in giant rooster suits to try and pop each others' balloons for prizes. This week check out Human Rooster Fighting, the “Tournament of Chefs” edition. A percentage of the night’s proceeds benefit Three Square Food Bank.

Thursday, Sept. 3:

High School Musical 2 at Town Square Park: Catch Wildcat fever with all your favorite characters from High School Musical 2 when the film is shown at the Town Square Park. The film will begin at sundown and seating is on a first come first served basis.

Air Supply at The Orleans Showroom: Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock met in Australia and found success in the United States, after Clive Davis signed them to Arista Records, when their single "Lost in Love" raced up the charts. Their second single, "All Out of Love," was an even bigger hit. Now the duo will perform all their timeless classics plus some of their newer material at the Orleans. They will be performing through Sunday.

Secondhand Serenade at The House of Blues: Secondhand Serenade presents the "Fast Times at Secondhand High" Tour with special guests Parachute, Evan Taubenfeld, and The Rust, performing live at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay.

Las Vegas 51s vs. Fresno Grizzlies at Cashman Field: Come support your hometown baseball team, the Las Vegas 51s, as they take on the Fresno Grizzlies at Cashman Field. This will be the final home game of the season. Tonight's promotion is Budweiser Dollar Beer Night Peepshow star, Holly Madison, will be throwing out the first pitch.

The Ronn Lucas Show at The South Point Showroom: Comedian and improviser, Ronn Lucas, will be bringing The Ronn Lucas Show to The South Point Showroom. The performer mixes stand up comedy, improv and audience interaction into his ventriloquist act.

Karaoke Idol at Hawaiian Tropic Zone: If you just missed the cut for American Idol or want your 15 minutes of fame on the Las Vegas Strip, head to Hawaiian Tropic Zone for Karaoke Idol. The top five performers will be determined by the crowd of onlookers and will be invited back to compete in the finals on Saturday to vie for the $1,000 prize. All that singing in the shower might finally pay off.

"Old Vegas" graveyard specials at Charlie's Lakeside Casino: This Labor Day Weekend, enjoy "Old Vegas" graveyard specials at Charlie's Lakeside Casino. Hell's Belles at Wasted Space: Wasted Space at the Hard Rock presents all-girl AC/DC tribute band, Hell's Belles, performing all of the iconic band's classic hits.

Friday, Sept. 4:

Billy Joel Tribute at Lake Las Vegas: The Village classic rock concert series at Lake Las Vegas is celebrating Labor Day Weekend with a Billy Joel Tribute band. Hear all the greatest hits from the "Piano Man" like "New York State of Mind" and "Uptown Girl" while overlooking the beautiful lake at Montelago Village.

Uptown Downtown Getdown at Daydream Pool: Daydream Pool Club at M Resort presents the Uptown Downtown Getdown featuring DJ M!ke Attack, spinning live by the pool as you soak up some summer rays. Check out M!keAttack in Las Vegas Weekly's Local DJ Guide.

Ralphie May at the South Point Showroom: Comedian Ralphie May is large and in charge and ready to make you laugh with a Labor Day Weekend run at the South Point Showroom. The veteran of Last Comic Standing will have you in stitches with his ode to Chik-fil-a and what it was like to swim in Saddam Hussein's pool.

Boris and Chus & Ceballos at Wet Republic: Boris and Madrid's electronica duo, Chus & Ceballos, will be spinning live poolside at Wet Republic at MGM Grand. DJ Boris got his start in St. Petersberg before moving on to the NYC clubs and will be bringing the European vibe to Vegas.

Jaguares at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm: The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm presents Jaguares who bring their signature Mexican rock North of the border. The band has had a successful career including a recent tour with Morrissey. This time they are the main attraction as they take the stage in Primm. It should be quite the fiesta!

“Jazz on the Lake” with Bobby C. at Lake Las Vegas: The Village at Lake Las Vegas continues their free series “Jazz on the Lake” with local artist Bobby C. performing live on Saturday night.

Frank Sinatra Jr. at The Suncoast: Frank Sinatra Jr. and his eight-piece band will be performing live at The Suncoast. He's been performing in Las Vegas since 1963 and has seen the scene change dramatically. The one thing that remains the same is the quality of his father's songs which he will bring to life once again on stage at The Suncoast. Frank Sinatra Jr. will also perform on Saturday night.

Chris Botti at Aliante Station:Chris Botti brings his romantic jazz sounds, inspired by Italy, to Aliante Station. The sexy trumpeter and composer has topped the charts and People's Most Beautiful People list as well.

Bill Cosby at Treasure Island: The star of the The Cosby Show and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids got his start in stand-up comedy. The TV star opened doors for other African-American actors as he broke through racial barriers. He will be performing live at the Treasure Island Theatre.

Wine Walk at Town Square: The 2009 Wine Walk season picks back up at Town Square, just in time for Labor Day Weekend. The walk will showcase a variety of food and wines throughout Town Square Park and feature 20 different wines for sampling. Proceeds from the walk will benefit New Vista Community; a local charity committed to providing equal opportunities and support to intellectually challenged people of all ages so that they may experience life to the fullest.

End of Summer Festival at M Resort: Enjoy an End of Summer Festival at Villaggio Del Sole Entertainment Piazza at the M Resort Spa Casino where partiers can enjoy a Labor Day bash by the pool. The party will feature live musical performances, a fresh lemonade stand, watermelon-eating contest, a festival of food and a fireworks show. The ‘70s and ‘80s tribute band Loveshack will perform from 3-5:30 p.m. and Nitro will perform rock and pop songs from 5:30-8 p.m.

Al Green at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm: Gospel and soul legend Al Green will be performing live at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm. He has been performing hits like "Let's Stay Together" and "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" for the better part of four decades.

Solid Gold Sundays presents Break da 80’s night at VooDoo Lounge: For the Labor of Love Labor Day Weekend party, VooDoo Lounge presents a special edition Solid Gold Sundays featuring the Break da 80’s night with b-boy performances and a dance competition. DJ Tino Sanchez and DJ Albert Gruve will be spinning live on the terrace with DJ Phoenix Orion and DJ Cass in the lounge.
