Labor Day guide to Las Vegas

Memorial Day is a distant memory and it’s not quite time for Halloween. That doesn’t mean it’s not time to party like a rockstar. As usual, Las Vegas is pulling out all the stops for a Labor Day Weekend chock full of concerts, DJs, barbecues and pool parties not soon to be forgotten.

The nightclubs and pools are bringing in the big guns like Miguel Migs, Boris, Sharam and Eric Morillo. Fabulous Fest will descend upon the Palms bringing the best dance DJs under one roof. Jeffery Sanker will be back in town with his infamous White Party.

You can see classic acts like Air Supply and Bob Weir and Ratdog or go modern with Secondhand Serenade and Solarcade. The biggest local bands like Imagine Dragons, Slow to Surface and Solidify will also be performing this weekend. Bill Cosby’s even getting in on the action with a special night at Treasure Island. Whether you want comedy, music, big name DJs or just a delicious barbecue, Labor Day Weekend has what you are looking for.

Wednesday, Sept. 2:

Bob Weir and RatDog at The House of Blues: Bob Weir, of Grateful Dead fame, will be performing live at The House of Blues at Mandalay Bay along with RatDog. The lineup has been a revolving door for Grateful Dead members as well as a who's who of rock and jam band stars. The current lineup features Jay Lane, Jeff Chimenti, Mark Karan, Kenny Brooks and Robin Sylvester.

S.K.A.M. Artist Takeover at Body English: Body English at Hard Rock presents the S.K.A.M. Artist Takeover, the house edition with DJs Tony Arzadon, Chris Garcia, Gusto, Nathan Scott and Vice. Check out Nathan Scott, Chris Garcia and Tony Arzadon in Las Vegas Weekly's Local DJ Guide.

Human Rooster Fighting at Mischieve Wednesdays at T&T: Mischieve Wednesdays at T&T includes drink specials like $5 house margaritas, $5 Hornitos shots and $5 Tecaté while resident DJ Ernan spins an eclectic mix of rock 'n' roll, Latin and house beats. Now they've added an element to keep the party crazy: human rooster fighting! Party-goers can go head to head in giant rooster suits to try and pop each others' balloons for prizes. This week check out Human Rooster Fighting, the “Tournament of Chefs” edition. A percentage of the night’s proceeds benefit Three Square Food Bank.

Thursday, Sept. 3:

High School Musical 2 at Town Square Park: Catch Wildcat fever with all your favorite characters from High School Musical 2 when the film is shown at the Town Square Park. The film will begin at sundown and seating is on a first come first served basis.

Air Supply at The Orleans Showroom: Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock met in Australia and found success in the United States, after Clive Davis signed them to Arista Records, when their single "Lost in Love" raced up the charts. Their second single, "All Out of Love," was an even bigger hit. Now the duo will perform all their timeless classics plus some of their newer material at the Orleans. They will be performing through Sunday.

Secondhand Serenade at The House of Blues: Secondhand Serenade presents the "Fast Times at Secondhand High" Tour with special guests Parachute, Evan Taubenfeld, and The Rust, performing live at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay.

Las Vegas 51s vs. Fresno Grizzlies at Cashman Field: Come support your hometown baseball team, the Las Vegas 51s, as they take on the Fresno Grizzlies at Cashman Field. This will be the final home game of the season. Tonight's promotion is Budweiser Dollar Beer Night Peepshow star, Holly Madison, will be throwing out the first pitch.

The Ronn Lucas Show at The South Point Showroom: Comedian and improviser, Ronn Lucas, will be bringing The Ronn Lucas Show to The South Point Showroom. The performer mixes stand up comedy, improv and audience interaction into his ventriloquist act.

Karaoke Idol at Hawaiian Tropic Zone: If you just missed the cut for American Idol or want your 15 minutes of fame on the Las Vegas Strip, head to Hawaiian Tropic Zone for Karaoke Idol. The top five performers will be determined by the crowd of onlookers and will be invited back to compete in the finals on Saturday to vie for the $1,000 prize. All that singing in the shower might finally pay off.

"Old Vegas" graveyard specials at Charlie's Lakeside Casino: This Labor Day Weekend, enjoy "Old Vegas" graveyard specials at Charlie's Lakeside Casino. For just $1.99, you can get items like buttermilk pancakes, bacon and eggs, biscuits and gravy, Charlie's burger or a steak sandwich. The specials are served from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. and ought to hit the spot after a long night of partying.

Expose at Caramel Lounge: Expose at Caramel Lounge presents the work of native Las Vegas artist Carlos De Las Heras. The party starts at 6 p.m., so don't be late.

King Baby Project party at Blush: Blush will host the Official King Baby Project party and showcase of King Baby's new heavy metal collection.

DJ Vice and Justin Bauley at Drai's: DJ Vice will be spinning in the VIP room and DJ Justin Bauley will hold it down in the house room at Drai's Afterhours.

Diva Toxx hosts at Krave Lounge: Diva Toxx hosts at Krave Lounge with a performance by Emmanuel Evans. In the main room, J.Son hosts Big Naked Truth or Dare.

Get Dirty in Your Skirty at McFadden's: McFadden's present Get Dirty in Your Skirty with an intense beer pong tournament and a scintillating school girl contest for a $250 cash prize.

Hell's Belles at Wasted Space: Wasted Space at the Hard Rock presents all-girl AC/DC tribute band, Hell's Belles, performing all of the iconic band's classic hits.

Friday, Sept. 4:

Billy Joel Tribute at Lake Las Vegas: The Village classic rock concert series at Lake Las Vegas is celebrating Labor Day Weekend with a Billy Joel Tribute band. Hear all the greatest hits from the "Piano Man" like "New York State of Mind" and "Uptown Girl" while overlooking the beautiful lake at Montelago Village.

Uptown Downtown Getdown at Daydream Pool: Daydream Pool Club at M Resort presents the Uptown Downtown Getdown featuring DJ M!ke Attack, spinning live by the pool as you soak up some summer rays. Check out M!keAttack in Las Vegas Weekly's Local DJ Guide.

Ralphie May at the South Point Showroom: Comedian Ralphie May is large and in charge and ready to make you laugh with a Labor Day Weekend run at the South Point Showroom. The veteran of Last Comic Standing will have you in stitches with his ode to Chik-fil-a and what it was like to swim in Saddam Hussein's pool.

Boris and Chus & Ceballos at Wet Republic: Boris and Madrid's electronica duo, Chus & Ceballos, will be spinning live poolside at Wet Republic at MGM Grand. DJ Boris got his start in St. Petersberg before moving on to the NYC clubs and will be bringing the European vibe to Vegas.

Jaguares at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm: The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm presents Jaguares who bring their signature Mexican rock North of the border. The band has had a successful career including a recent tour with Morrissey. This time they are the main attraction as they take the stage in Primm. It should be quite the fiesta!

Labor of Love at VooDoo Lounge with Las Vegas' sexiest DJs: Las Vegas' sexiest DJs will host the opening night of Labor of Love, the Labor Day Weekend festivities at VooDoo Lounge at the top of The Rio. DJ Mika will be spinning on the terrace and DJ L1 will provide the tunes in the lounge.

Ditch Fridays featuring Steve Aoki for Fabulous Fest: Starting at noon, Ditch Fridays at Palms Pool & Bungalows will feature sounds by Steve Aoki and DJ Scotty Boy. Check out Scotty Boy in our Local DJ Guide.

Danny Love and R.O.B. at Rain and the Palms Pool: Inside at Rain Nightclub, DJ R.O.B. will man the decks. Outside at Palms Pool & Bungalows, Danny Love spins poolside with an opening set by DJ BEEJ. Tickets start at $30, which includes the option to move freely between Rain Nightclub and Palms Pool & Bungalows.

Venus Rising at the Fremont Street Experience: The "Summer of '69: Vegas or Bust" concert series will come to a close with the “End of Summer, What a Bummer Bash” Labor Day weekend bash at the Fremont Street Experience. From 8 until 11 p.m. check out Venus Rising on the 1st Street Stage, Carl Ferris, Solo Saxophonist, at Casino Center and Dreams – The Ultimate Tribute to Fleetwood Mac on the 3rd Street Stage. At 9:15, 10:15 and 11: 15 p.m. catch a "Psychedelic Ride" at The Hippie Bus Street Party in the Main Street Area.

Karaoke Idol at Hawaiian Tropic Zone: Hawaiian Tropic Zone will host day 2 of the Karaoke Idol competition, where the top 5 contestants will be selected to go head to head for the $1,000 prize Saturday night.

Sublevel at Risque: HouseRoomLV presents Sublevel at Risque featuring a 4+ hour set by Doc Martin with sets by Pat Schoolastra and Josh Abrams.

Mickey Avalon at Cherry: Cherry Nightclub at Red Rock presents the trifecta of rockstar party hosts with Mickey Avalon with Dirt Nasty and Andre Legacy.

Matt Goss Live From Las Vegas: London-based international singing sensation, Matt Goss, known to his fans across the world as “The Voice," will begin his residency at The Gossy Room at The Palms.

Puddle of Mudd at The Hard Rock Pool: Puddle of Mudd will be performing live at The Hard Rock Pool as part of Friday Night Live. The Kansas-based rock group have been turning out the hits for the better part of the last decade and have gained critical acclaim for albums like Come Clean and Life on Display.

Vampire Wine for September birthdays at Krave Lounge: Krave Lounge will be offering up a free bottle of Vampire Wine for September birthdays; must RSVP to [email protected]. DJs Sektion and Dr. White will be spinning all night long.

Megan Hauserman hosts at The Playground: Reality TV's Megan Hauserman and Cecille Garr from VH1’s Megan Wants a Millionaire will host the party at The Playground while Bonafide performs live in the Rock Room.

Vanilla Ice at Rok Vegas: Vanilla Ice has thawed out his '90s lyrics and is back in business for the next generation. He will be performing live at Rok Vegas at NYNY.

DJ Morningstar at Rumjungle: Jeffrey Sanker's White Party weekend kicks off with former Krave resident, DJ Morningstar, performing live at Rumjungle at Mandalay Bay.

Stoney's Rockin' Country presents KingBilly: Stoney's Rockin' Country presents a live performance by Nashville's country rock band KingBilly. Expect spontaneous line dancing to occur.

LMFAO at Tao: LMFAO will be hosting the party at Tao Nightclub at The Venetian. The party-loving duo will be able to honestly say, "I'm in Las Vegas Bitch" over Labor Day Weekend.

Saturday, Sept. 5:

“Jazz on the Lake” with Bobby C. at Lake Las Vegas: The Village at Lake Las Vegas continues their free series “Jazz on the Lake” with local artist Bobby C. performing live on Saturday night.

Frank Sinatra Jr. at The Suncoast: Frank Sinatra Jr. and his eight-piece band will be performing live at The Suncoast. He's been performing in Las Vegas since 1963 and has seen the scene change dramatically. The one thing that remains the same is the quality of his father's songs which he will bring to life once again on stage at The Suncoast. Frank Sinatra Jr. will also perform on Saturday night.

Chris Botti at Aliante Station:Chris Botti brings his romantic jazz sounds, inspired by Italy, to Aliante Station. The sexy trumpeter and composer has topped the charts and People's Most Beautiful People list as well.

Bill Cosby at Treasure Island: The star of the The Cosby Show and Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids got his start in stand-up comedy. The TV star opened doors for other African-American actors as he broke through racial barriers. He will be performing live at the Treasure Island Theatre.

UNLV Rebels vs. Sacramento State at Sam Boyd Stadium: Catch the UNLV Rebel's home opener against Sacramento State at Sam Boyd Stadium. Wear your red and join the Rebel Nation as UNLV begins what promises to be a fun-filled and exciting football season.

Reba McEntire at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm: Country star Reba McEntire will be performing live at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm. McEntire has had great career longevity thanks to hits like "Whoever's in New England", "Fancy" and "I Know How He Feels.".

Victor Calderone at Wet Republic: Victor Calderone, Armand VanHelden and Behrouz will all be spinning live at Wet Republic Ultrapool at MGM Grand for Day 2 of their Labor Day Weekend Extravaganzza.

White Out Party with Ed Hardy fashions at Daydream at M Resort: Daydream Pool Club at the M Resort presents the White Out Party with Ed Hardy swimwear and footwear. Bust out the summer whites for one last hurrah, then put them away 'til next summer, only if you subscribe to grandma's "no white after Labor Day rule."

Zowie Bowie Inside the Pub: Catch Zowie Bowie in their opening night performing live at The Pub at Monte Carlo. They'll be doing a blend of today's hottest dance music, disco and top 40 every Friday and Saturday night from 11 p.m. until around 2 a.m.

Wine Walk at Town Square: The 2009 Wine Walk season picks back up at Town Square, just in time for Labor Day Weekend. The walk will showcase a variety of food and wines throughout Town Square Park and feature 20 different wines for sampling. Proceeds from the walk will benefit New Vista Community; a local charity committed to providing equal opportunities and support to intellectually challenged people of all ages so that they may experience life to the fullest.

DJ Cyberkid at VooDoo Lounge: Get a multimedia clubbing experience at the Labor of Love party at VooDoo Lounge with DJ Cyberkid and DJ Jeff G splitting the spinning duties outside on the terrace and Video DJ Crime spinning in the lounge.

Power 88 Super Soul Gospel Fest at the Henderson Pavilion: The City of Henderson, in association with radio station, KCEP-FM 88.1, will bring the Power 88 Super Soul Gospel Fest 2009 to the Henderson Pavilion over Labor Day Weekend. Dr. Marvin Sapp and Pastor Hezekiah Walker & The Love Fellowship Crusade Choir will perform all their hits live at this special concert.

Def Leppard, Cheap Trick and Poison at the MGM Grand Garden Arena: Def Leppard, Cheap Trick and Poison will all be performing live together at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Fans of Def Leopard can expect hits like “Photograph,” “Pour Some Sugar On Me,” “Foolin’,” “Bringin’ On The Heartbreak,” “Nine Lives” and countless others.

Forbidden hosts her birthday party at Hawaiian Tropic Zone: MySpace vixen Christine Dolce, better known as Forbidden, will be hosting her birthday party at Hawaiian Tropic Zone and tribute artist Mini Madonna will be performing live. Also, it's the Karaoke Idol finals at Hawaiian Tropic Zone: Hawaiian Tropic Zone will host the Karaoke Idol finals, where the top five contestants from Thursday's preliminary rounds will go head to head for the $1,000 prize.

Solarcade at The Freakin' Frog: Scirroco will kick things off with an early set starting at 7 p.m. at The Freakin' Frog followed by a 10 p.m. set by Solarcade with Light The Big Skye.

The Get Back at Beauty Bar: Come to the Beauty Bar to get your groove on at a funky soul dance party as part of The Get Back, a First Friday Afterparty. Listen to the coolest tunes and maybe even get your nails done at this downtown hipster hangout.

Holly Madison hosts at Studio 54: Peepshow star and Playboy hottie, Holly Madison, will be hosting the party at Studio 54 at MGM Grand. Hang out with the blond beauty and her sexy entourage.

OM: Las Vegas at Risque: HouseRoomLV presents OM: Las Vegas at Risque featuring Mark Farina, Fred Everything, Carlos Sanchez and G-Dubbs in the Main Room and DJ Inferno and DJ KC Ray in the Back Room.

DJ Class at Cherry: Guest DJ Class will be on hand at Cherry Nightclub to perform his hit "I'm the Ish." If you think you're the "ish," make sure you hit the Red Rock nightclub.

Louis Puig at Drai's: Drai's Afterhours presents DJ Skee spinning live in the VIP room, and Louis Puig of Space Miami in the main room.

Erika Jayne at Krave: Jeffrey Sanker's White Party weekend continues with DJs Derek Monteiro and Tony Moran performing live at Krave Nightclub. Erika Jayne will also be performing her new single, “Give You Everything.”

The Dan Band at LAX: Guest DJ Marshall Barnes will be spinning live at LAX along with The Dan Band. The LA comedy band is known for their covers of female-fronted rock songs like they did in The Hangover.

Cougars and Coeds at McFadden's: McFadden’s at The Rio presents "Cougars and Coeds,” with complimentary cover for any party goers that present a college ID or AARP card. Pick your poison.

LMFAO at Tao Beach: LMFAO returns to the scene of the filming of their music video for the single “Shots.” If you missed the party the first time around, come have some more shots with the hip-hop duo.

Endless Summer Saturdays at Green Valley Ranch: The Pond at Green Valley Ranch presents Endless Summer Saturdays with Red Stripe beer, Rock 'n’ Roll Wine and sounds by Bonafide, performing live, plus DJ Jace One.

Naughty by Nature at Rok Vegas: Naughty by Nature will be performing live at Rok Vegas at New York New York. The Grammy-award winning hip-hop duo will be performing their hit single, "O.P.P."

Mix Master Mike at Blush: Blush Boutique Nightclub at Wynn presents The Beastie Boys' Mix Master Mike, spinning live. The legendary scratch DJ has also performed on albums for Rob Zombie and Tommy Lee.

Sharam and Cedric Gervais at Wet Republic: Sharam and Cedric Gervais will be spinning poolside at Wet Republic Ultra Pool at the MGM Grand for Day 3 of the Labor Day Weekend Extravaganzza.

End of Summer Festival at M Resort: Enjoy an End of Summer Festival at Villaggio Del Sole Entertainment Piazza at the M Resort Spa Casino where partiers can enjoy a Labor Day bash by the pool. The party will feature live musical performances, a fresh lemonade stand, watermelon-eating contest, a festival of food and a fireworks show. The ‘70s and ‘80s tribute band Loveshack will perform from 3-5:30 p.m. and Nitro will perform rock and pop songs from 5:30-8 p.m.

Al Green at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm: Gospel and soul legend Al Green will be performing live at The Star of the Desert Arena in Primm. He has been performing hits like "Let's Stay Together" and "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" for the better part of four decades.

Solid Gold Sundays presents Break da 80’s night at VooDoo Lounge: For the Labor of Love Labor Day Weekend party, VooDoo Lounge presents a special edition Solid Gold Sundays featuring the Break da 80’s night with b-boy performances and a dance competition. DJ Tino Sanchez and DJ Albert Gruve will be spinning live on the terrace with DJ Phoenix Orion and DJ Cass in the lounge.

Fabulous Fest Main Event at Palms Pool and Rain: Party by day at the Palms Pool and Bungalows while dancing to the sounds of Carl Cox, Manufactured Superstars, Nicci Belucci, Keith Evans and Jordan Stevens. Starting at 9 p.m, Steve Angello of the infamous Swedish House Mafia will spin with DJ Murk and El Canario poolside. Inside at Rain, Felix da Housecat and Markus Schulz. Enjoy opening sets at DJ Reza, Scotty Boy and The Funkler, Michael Fuller.

Strip Karaoke and DJ Timbo at Hawaiian Tropic Zone: Ring in Labor Day at Hawaiian Tropic Zone with sounds by DJ Timbo. Strip Karaoke will take place on the patio, overlooking The Strip.

Smile Brigade at The Freakin' Frog: Seattle psychedelic rockers Smile Brigade will be performing live at The Freakin' Frog. The electric folk group will bring their '60 vibe along with tracks from their EP Take the Precious Edge Off This Treacherous Ledge and their upcoming release.

Suede Sundays Launch Party at Beauty Bar: The Beauty Bar presents the Suede Sundays Launch Party featuring tunes by The Smiths, Morrisey and other dark '80s music.

Fabolous at Jet: Fabolous, not to be confused with the Fabulous Fest at The Palms, will be performing live at Jet Nightclub at The Mirage. The Brooklyn-based rapper is known for hit singles like "Can't Deny It", "Can't Let You Go" and "My Time."

Sharam's CD Release Party at Drai's: Sharam will bring his "Get Wild Tour" to Drais Afterhours for a late night official CD Release Party for his new disc, Get Wild.

The Paradiso Girls at The Bank: The Paradiso Girls will be performing live at The Bank at Bellagio. The multi-national girl group will be performing their hit single, "Patron Tequila."

6th Annual White Party at Body English: Body English presents the 6th annual White Party. Ladies dressed in white enjoy free champagne at the club at the Hard Rock.

T-Pain at Rehab: Rehab, the infamous Sunday Pool Party at The Hard Rock Pool, welcomes host T-Pain. Hear hits like "I'm Spring" and "The Good Life" while you lounge by the pool.

Jeffery Sanker's White Party Main Event at The House of Blues: The House of Blues presents Jeffrey Sanker's White Party weekend's Main Event with DJ Joe Gauthreaux and a special performance by the Ten Tenors. Grab a Red Bull, the party goes from 11 p.m.-6 a.m.

DJ Eric Morillo at Tao: Celebrate Labor Day weekend at Tao with DJ Eric Morillo as he returns to spin the night away at the posh club. Eric Morillo is known for spinning the best in house music in venues in NYC and Ibiza and now he brings his signature sound to Las Vegas.
