Seinfeld comes to Eli’s rescue

Shouldn't the NFC Championship Game - Giants versus Packers - be fought on the field Sunday?

Call me a New York homer if you'd like (I'm a Giants fan from Long Island), but how could you not laugh Wednesday when the Fox station in Green Bay announced it would be replacing anepisode of Seinfeld tomorrow because New York quarterback Eli Manning reportedly said it's his favorite show.

Jerry Seinfeld (also a native Long Islander) quickly struck back on the Giants behalf.

Seinfeld told the New York Post: "I'm going to send Eli a complete collection of 'Seinfeld' DVDs and a partial collection of 'Hogan's Heroes' for inspiration!"

That should have been the end of this silly tangent.

But the Fox affiliate's vice president and general manager, Jay Zollar, apparently couldn't help himself today: "Splendid. The plan is unfolding beautifully. Now if we can have Sony send the DVDs and DVD player to Eli’s hotel by Saturday, then, Eli Manning, no sleep for you!"

Ah, a not-so-clever paraphrase of the "no soup for you" episode.

Speaking of soup, that's something players on both teams will be needing Sunday, when wind chills are expected to drop below zero degrees in Green Bay.
