Las Vegas author offers book free online

Las Vegas native Charles Bock, author of the well-received first novel "Beautiful Children," is putting his book online for free. The electronic version can be downloaded here as a 2 MB PDF file through Friday. It is also available for free download from amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.

I want people to read the book," Bock said in a statement issued by his publisher, Random House. "If that means giving it away for free online, great."

Set in Las Vegas, "Beautiful Children" is about troubled young people and "urban nomads," and at the end of the book, Bock includes a list of resources for missing, homeless and at-risk youth. He also includes this suggestion:

"Also, should you happen to be driving in Las Vegas, when you need to fuel up or get a soda, may I suggest Terrible Herbst. They are a partner with the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth, and their stores and gas stations even serve as places where runaways can go for shelter and get a bite."
