Top country acts to perform at NFR in Las Vegas

Country music fans who missed Mark Chestnutt and the others during the Downtown Hoedown and National Finals Rodeo kick-off Wednesday night need not despair: Plenty of Grade A country acts will be performing around town until NFR wraps on Dec. 14.

There will be free entertainment before and after rodeo competition at the Thomas & Mack Center each night. Sponsored by the Academy of Country Music, shows at the so-called "Cowboy Corral" stage will start at 5:45 p.m. weekdays and 4:45 p.m. on weekends and will include performers such as Jack Ingram, on Dec. 13. (Click here for the full line-up.) Note: admission to the rodeo itself is required to take in these shows.

Reba McEntire will perform during NFR opening ceremonies on Dec. 6 but will not be performing off-site. Brooks and Dunn, however, will perform during the opening the following day and then move over to the Hilton for their full-length concert. (Charlie Daniels will do the same, on Dec. 11, before his show at the Golden Nugget.)

If calf ropin' and bull ridin' really isn't your thing but country music is -- or if you just weren't lucky enough to get good tickets -- you're still in luck. Stars from across the country music solar system will be performing off-site each night of NFR at various locations across the city.

Here is a sampling of the country music heavyweights who will be in town:

• Clay Walker (Dec. 5 and 6 at the Silverton Casino)

• Travis Tritt (Dec. 5 and 6 at the Tropicana)

• Brooks and Dunn (Dec. 5, 6 and 7 at Las Vegas Hilton)

• Lee Greenwood (Dec. 7 at the Orleans)

• Charlie Daniels (Dec. 11 and 12 at the Golden Nugget)

• Blake Shelton (Dec. 12 and 13 at the Silverton Casino)

• Gretchen Wilson (Dec. 12 and 13 at the Las Vegas Hilton)

• Jo Dee Messina (Dec. 12, 13 and 14 at the Orleans)
