North Las Vegas has tapped acting Police Chief Joseph Forti to become permanent chief.
The hiring followed a national search that drew more than 100 applicants, narrowed to 15 by a consultant.
“After talking with the consultant and reviewing the applications, I believe Joseph Forti was clearly the best qualified for the position,” City Manager Gregory Rose said in a written statement today.
Forti will earn an annual base salary of $151,405.
A North Las Vegas officer since 1990, Forti has served as acting chief since February.
He replaced former Chief Mark Paresi, who left the department at the end of 2007 after what sources said was years of internal strife and union dissatisfaction.
North Las Vegas Police Union leaders and some City Council members had been pushing for the city to promote a new chief from within the department.
They got their wish.
