Henderson Police detectives arrested 26-year-old Sonny Haviland of Henderson on Thursday for an attempted kidnapping.

A 16-year-old girl was walking home in the area of Drake Street and Major Avenue on Tuesday when a silver car pulled near her and followed her, police said.

The teenager then noticed that the vehicle had stopped in front of her and she cut through a field to avoid the car. In front of the Boys and Girls Club at 401 Drake St., the car approached her again and a man inside told the girl he would like to give her a ride home, police said.

The girl refused to get in the car and the man got out of the vehicle, approached her, grabbed her by the arm and attempted to pull her toward the car.

The girl was able to break away from the man and run home. She notified her mother and the two got into a car and located the suspect's silver Hyundadi coupe and took down the license plate number.

Henderson detectives located Haviland and he has been charged with one count of attempted kidnapping, a felony offense.
