The bicyclist who was killed Thursday after she was hit by a van has been identified as 43-year-old Barbara Tronnier, a Las Vegas school teacher and mother of two.
She was an avid cyclist who rode to work every day, according to her husband, Dave Tronnier. She was hit while riding Thursday to Cadwallader Middle School in northeast Las Vegas.
Police said the driver of a van didn't see Tronnier on her bicycle and was not immediately charged in the crash.
I feel so bad 4 the family that just lost an amazing woman. I am going 2 be at Cadwallder next year and I was hopind that she would be my science teacher. My friend was very close 2 Ms. Tronnier and I feel sooooooooo bad 4 her loved ones. Thankfully the school will have a memory with a gettogether 4 family and friends at Cadwallder M.S. I give all my love 2 her family and I will never forget the media and science teacher at Cadwallder M.S. Also I can not forget that my Grandmothers birthday was the day she died and my grandma died a few months back.
I am soooooooo sorry for that family.
I will miss my teacher and I will never forget her!
The driver needs to be charged with manslaughter. Driving a car is a privledge that many people abuse. Until drivers who kill others are held accountable, people will still think its alright to not pay attention when driving a 2-ton plus vehicle.
A memorial for Mrs. Barbara Tronnier will be held at Cadwallader Middle School on Monday, June 9, from 8 to 11 am. Students and their family are invited to participate in activities to honor our beloved teacher, colleague, and friend.
Her family will host a special service and celebration of her life on Saturday, June 14, at their home.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to her family at BANK OF NEVADA, ACCT #7500765703, checks payable to "Tronnier family."
Thank you for helping us celebrate a dedicated educator who believed in helping children understand the importance of creativity, self-esteem, and responsibility to the Earth. Her legacy will live on in her two children, Bryar and McCray, and in the lives of the hundreds of students she touched along her way....
Our hearts go out to her family.
The writers of this article should do their homework and make sure they get the area of the school right, the school is in the Nortwest.
Not seeing the victim is not a valid excuse. If you can't see cyclists, you should not drive a car under any circumstances. Anyone commuting in a low impact manner should be given extra room on the roads and priority over gas guzzling SUVs and vans. The driver must pay for his carelessness and be made a public example to show that reckless automobile operation is taken seriously here. Wake up, Las Vegas, soon many of you will ride bicycles out of necessity.
"I didn't see (the cyclist)" is not an excuse, it's a confession of a crime. The police and AG should behave accordingly.
Mrs. Tronnier truly changed my life. She helped me discover what I wanted to do with the rest of my life and how to get there. She was always smiling and made you feel happy. It is a devastating thing that this has happened to our community. There will be so many students who won't get to benefit from getting her as their media teacher. She became so good at running our TV studio that I don't know how they will be able to replace her. That was a job fit for only her. My heart goes out to her family and hope that they will find comfort in the memories they have of this amazing woman. For those of you who don't know, she was hit by a cancer patient who has black outs. He had a black out as he was driving and went onto the wrong side of the road.
