The man suspected of shooting a 10-year veteran Metro Police officer in the leg this morning is dead, Metro Police officer Bill Cassell said a short time ago.
How the unidentified man died isn’t yet known, Cassell said.
The incident began unfolding before 7 this morning when Metro officers responded to a call of a man with a gun at the Penthouse Club, a strip club on Russell Road. The police chased the vehicle after it was spotted in the area near Durango High School.
The dark green Hummer skidded to its side in a dirt lot on Rainbow Boulevard, between Russell and Hacienda Avenue. When a Metro officer opened the vehicle’s door, shots were fired and the policeman was shot in the right leg, Undersheriff Tod Jett said. The officer was taken to Spring
Valley Hospital where he was expected to undergo surgery.
The suspect stayed inside the Hummer and SWAT officers moved in, surrounding the Hummer with its shattered windshield and tinted windows.
How the incident was resolved at about 9:40 a.m. is unclear. KLAS TV Channel 8, which was broadcasting the event live, was asked by Metro Police to stop broadcasting the unfolding scene, as police suspected the Hummer had a television, which the man inside could watch and see the officers' movements.
Technorati

Metro? Killing someone? Imagine that. I'd love to hear a recording of the standoff. That guy could have come out naked with his arms outstretched and they still would have killed him. "We thought he had a gun!"
If you would have read the article, the alleged suspect shot a Metro Police officer in the leg. next time, read before you comment.
Yes, and there was a standoff, Goldie. He was in his Hummer and the ending was "unclear." I got a good idea how it ended. The cops shot and killed another person. They've been bloodthirsty ever since Prendes was murdered. It was a tragedy but they haven't been accountable since – even when they shot a teenager in the back or a woman in front of her kids.
Gee BringTheRain you really have a good reading on the whole situation. Tell us just what kind of inside information you have that makes you able to know exactly whats in the hearts and minds of every Metro officer? And why does EVERY person shot by Metro either have a lngthy rap sheet or a weapon? I've lived in Las Vegas for 33 years and I obey the laws and I've never been shot (and neither has anybody I know who also conducts himself like a human being.
Ok bringtherain you must be a sniviling punk that thinks its ok to shoot cops. Im sure the now deceased did nothing wrong oh boo hoo. If he was innocent then why did he have a gun and why did he shoot a cop. I think metro shows more restraint then they truly need. I work with them all the time and trust me I dont think any of them are looking to kill any one, but if it comes down to it then they do what they have to do. I know I feel better knowing that they have my back and are there when they are needed. And lastly the most important thing is how is the officer and his family doing. What we have to remember is we are all humans.
