A sobriety checkpoint netted 16 arrests in connection with DUI this past weekend east of the downtown area.
Metro Police conducted the checkpoint from 7 p.m. Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday in the area of Charleston Boulevard and Eastern Avenue. In addition to the 16 motorists arrested for DUI, police said 12 people received traffic citations and two were arrested on misdemeanors.
Authorities said officers involved in the checkpoint were focused on identifying drivers impaired by drugs and alcohol.

Thanks Metro!
Very glad to see the checkpoint set up but sad to see so many "slip through the cracks" as I watched a lot of vehicles turn around (many making an illegal u-turn on Charleston) when they saw the police ahead.
Why not have a few police on the lookout for these who obviously have something to "hide"?
Could save others lives in the process.
Maybe those people doing u-turns were trying to avoid the illegal fishing expedition. Checkpoints are unconstitutional.
Lenny_V I hope the day doesn't come when you ask the question, "Where was Metro or NHP"
because you have lost a loved one to a drunk driver.
It is your OPINION a Checkpoint is unconstitutional, but IT IS illegal to drive over the "legal limit" of alcohol.
Lenny, Lenny, Lenny,
It is all about you bro. Ya'll be wrong. Tis not unconstitutional. You be believin' that which is wrong. Ya'll be wrong. Get your head screwed on right man. Alcohol be bad, causin' nothing but trouble. Shoot.
This town has such a large problem with drunk drivers that the check points are necessary. There should be one at each end of the Strip 24/7.
Please support stiffer penalties for anyone guilty of vehicular manslaughter.
Only 16 DUI's out of the thousands that happened over the weekend?
Way to crack down, LVPD.
