A man was killed Friday evening in North Las Vegas after he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a fence.

North Las Vegas police responded to the crash at 8:09 p.m. Friday in the 5200 block of Maple Mesa Street. Authorities said the 50-year-old driver of the 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle was westbound on Washburn Road approaching Maple Mesa when the vehicle entered the corner traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver then lost control of the motorcycle, which crossed into the oncoming travel lanes and struck a curb. Police said the man was thrown from the vehicle and struck his head on a chain-link fence near the road.

The man wasn't wearing a helmet and suffered severe head trauma, investigators said. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim's name wasn't being released Friday night.
